Summer Nutrition Program …at a glance!

for our Youth…

Did you know?

Studies show that out-of-school time is dangerous

time for unsupervised children

And that they are more likely to engage in criminal

and other high risk behaviors than those who have the opportunity to

benefit from constructive activities supervised by

responsible adults

This summer the Y offered Summer Nutrition Camp…

60 youth participants…

Supervised by caring adults…

Did you know?

That on average, students lose approximately 2.6 months of grade level

equivalency in mathematical computation skills over the

summer months

And that low-income children and youth experience

greater summer learning losses than their higher-

income peers

This summer the Y’s Summer Nutrition Camp

focused on working on Math and Literacy skills

Monday-Friday for 8 weeks

60 at-risk youth are more academically prepared to start the new school year

Did you know?

That only 1 in 5 of the 15.3 million children who receive free or reduced price lunch

during the school year participate in federal

nutrition programs during the summer

…Did you get that?

1 in 5 low-income child has food

security during the summer

This summer 3,000 meals were served at the Y

6,000 Summer Snacks ( 2 per day)

60 children did not have to worry about their next meal
