Craigslist was incorporated as a for-profit organization in 1999.
The Craigslist make a profit by the fees for some postings. For example, the job posting fee in New York City is $25.
The Craigslist doesn't release its financial results to the public, but estimations range is in the millions of dollars -- $7 million for 2003 and more than $20 million in 2005.

Craig Newmark and Jim Buckmaster make an effort for keeping the Craigslist a service-based company, that focused on online communities. So they rejected offers to sell the Craigslist for a huge profit.
