Wide Shot (WS)

The subject fills the

frame. Also: long shot,

full shot.

Very WS

Extreme WS

Mid Shot (MS)

Shows the subject

in more detail, but

still gives an

impression of the

whole subject.

Useful for

dialogue.

Close Up (CU)

A certain feature or part

of the subject takes up

the whole frame. Useful

for showing emotion.

Extreme Close Up

Over-the-

Shoulder (OS)

Looking from

behind a person

at the subject.

Useful for

conversations

between people.

Point-of-View

(POV)

Shows the subject's

perspective.

Low Angle

Shows subject

from below.

Makes subject

look larger,

powerful,

dominant.

High Angle

Shows subject

from above.

Makes subject

look smaller,

diminished,

weak,

insignificant,

etc.

Eye-Level Angle

Most common

view. Recreates

our personal

perspective and

shows subject as

we would see

them in life.
