Gives patients choice and control. Reduces DNAs for unwanted appointments.

Supports paperless NHS. Reduces cost of mail and telephone queries. Reduces patient frustration from telephone

queues. Uses technology widely available, that patients

have close at hand.

Weaknesses: Requires initial set up cost.

Needs promotion and support. Will need extensive staff training

Will exclude a certain proportion of stakeholders, e.g., elderly, those with low incomes.

Ability to learn from mistakes and shortcomings of past attempts with similar ventures.

Opportunity to link with other online health or communication systems, e.g. Skype.
