1810:Sir Robert Farquar encouraged the cultivation of sugar cane

1835:slavery was abolished

1901:Mahatma Gandhi in Mauritius

1909:Indian Immigration ended

1968:Independence

1992:Became Republic

Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam

•Known as the ‘Father of the nation’

•Also known as ‘Chacha’

•Born in 18 SEPTEMBER 1900

•He was a FREEDOM FIGHTER who struggled for Mauritius

•Died in DECEMBER 1985

Independence•Gained Independence in 12 March 1968

•Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam became the first Prime Minister( Labour Party)

•Governor General represented the Queen Of Britain on that day

•Many people believed that Independence would give them a better life

Trocheti a•Trochetia is the symbol of Mauritius and its independence

•It is also known as the Star and Key of Indian Ocean
