Make/Model: This category caters for purpose built racing and sports
cars (open and closed cars) with a proven competition history for the pe-
riod 1960-1986
General: A very wide variety of cars are eligible ranging from one litre
Formula 3 cars of the early 1960’s which have quite modest performance
to the very fast Ralt and TIGA Formula Atlantic (picture top right) cars of
the “ground-effects” technology era. Such cars are powered by the 1.6L
Cosworth BDA race engine and have performance significantly in excess
of a current V8 Supercar despite now being over 20 years old.
The largest sub-category in this group locally is historic Formula Ford.
This covers Formula Ford cars manufactured up to 1983 and many enthusiasts find this group an economical and fun way to race a
thoroughbred open-wheeler which generally appreciates in value. These
cars can also race alongside their more modern counterparts in Formula
Ford 1600.
