Addressing Toronto’s need for electricityWith about one-third of our equipment installed in the 1950s and 1960s, some of our systems are now reaching end-of-life, and it’s affecting reliability.
Do we have enough electrical infrastructure to meet Toronto’s needs? How much do we need to invest to maintain or improve reliability? The Central Toronto Integrated Regional Resource Plan looks at where demand for electricity is growing and how this can best be managed over the next 25 years.

TORONTO HYDRO-ELECTRIC SYSTEM LIMITED FALL 2014
A reliable electricity grid is worth the investmentDid you know that approximately 40 per cent of outages have been caused by aging equipment?
We’re putting our resources into the grid, and our investments are working — but more is needed.
On July 31, 2014, we submitted a five-year rate application to the Ontario Energy Board (OEB).
Our plan proposes $4 billion in funding to replace aging assets, meet growing demand, help improve reliability and safeguard against extreme weather events.
Subject to approval from the OEB, residential customers could see their bill increase by about $3.50 per month over the next five years.

I found it very convenient to have an old freezer and small bar fridge picked up by Toronto Hydro while I was preparing my rental property for new tenants. To then receive a phone call saying I had won a new fridge was a bonus! My new tenants couldn’t be happier — what a great way for them to begin their stay in their new home.— Joanne M, Toronto
