KATHUA, Nov 3: One per-son died while two others wereinjured in two separate roadaccidents in Kathua districttoday.

Police said two personswere injured after their motor-bike was hit by a car which waswithout number near a petrol

pump on Jammu-PathankoteNational Highway in Barnotiarea near here. However the carfled after the accident leavingthe two youth in pool of blood.

The injured identified asParshotam Dass, 45, alias PapiS/o Bishan Dass of NarotePathankote and Ram Kumar23, S/o Pritam also a residentof Narote in Pathankote,Punjab. The duo was shifted bythe local people to Kathua hos-pital where Parshotam suc-cumbed to his injuries and RamKumar is still under treatment.

The Kathua police has reg-istered a case under relevantSections of the law in thisregard and started a man huntfor the car and its driver who isevading arrest.

In another case one motorcyclist was injured seriouslyafter his bike was hit by an autobearing number JK08 B21226at Hatli More near here oppo-site to a hotel. The injured hasbeen identified as Rohit S/oHaresh of Barnoti. He receivedmultiple injuries and was takento Amritsar in Punjab by hisfamily for treatment. The autodriver has been identified asDivinder. The motor cyclistwas on way from Barnoti toLakhanpur.

Hatli Morh Police has regis-tered a case in this regard.

Plus 2 Lecturers oppose ban on private tuition

JAMMU, Nov 3: All J&KPlus 2 Lecturers Forum hasdescribed the ban on privatetuition by Government teachersas unjustified and said that extracoaching is necessity to sharpenskills of the students.

A meeting of the Forum washeld today under the chairman-ship of N S Jamwal, chief advi-sor of the Forum, for discussingthe issues related to Plus 2 cadreand particularly theGovernment decision of ban-ning private tuition.

The meet observed that stu-dents belonging to far off areas,where private coaching centresare not available, the extracoaching by highly qualifiedand experienced Governmentteachers is in the interest of stu-dents so that they may competeat local and national level.

The meet also discussed sev-eral other demands of theForum, which included runningpattern to the cadre, regulariza-tion of all the incharge membersof the cadre, 40 percent in-serv-ice quota for college lecturers,provision of study leave forhigher qualification, non-voca-tional status to the Principals,immediate release of NPS fundsand discussion of BOSE relatedproblems at proper level.

President of the Forum,endorsed all demands andstressed for revocation of theGovernment order banning pri-vate tuition of Governmentteachers.

The meeting was attended byCharan Dass, Anil Sharma, DrSushma Rani, R S Salathia,Sanjay Bhagat, Pardeep Singh,Jatinder Sethi, Subash Gupta,Mulkh Raj and others.

JAMMU, Nov 3: There is alarge scale bungling in theAnganwari Centers workingunder Integrated ChildDevelopment Scheme (ICDS)and vigilance probe is necessaryto unearth it.

This was stated by BalvinderSingh, Convener, Sangarsh RTIMovement during a press con-ference here today. He sharedthe list of pregnant ladies of fewAnganwari Centers, receivedfrom the PIO in the officeDirector Social Welfare Jammualong with the date of theirdelivery and place of birth of thechild of each pregnant lady.

As per the list provided bythe PIO in the office of theDirector Social Welfare, SMGSHospital showed 58 out of 68 asfake deliveries, whereasGovernment Hospital Sarwalshowed two out of three as fakedeliveries. Government HospitalGandhi Nagar also showed 90per cent as fake deliveries, headded.

"There is major scam in theAnganwari centers regardingdistribution of ration.Anganwari center namely GurhaKeran Lane-9, shows only 8beneficiaries, AWC KamalNagar Keran "A" shows only 8beneficiaries, AWC TRTNagrota Zone "B" shows 10beneficiaries only and AWCPamposh Colony Sec-1 Janipurshows 35 beneficiaries. As per

documents, 350 kgs rice, 100kgs moongi, 100 kgs channa, 50kgs sugar and 40 kgs suji to allthe above mentioned fourAnganwari centers. As per theofficial data of the StateGovernment there are 29599Anganwari centers having10,33,197 souls as beneficiaries.The numbers of Anganwarishown by the Department arecorrect but the number of bene-ficiaries shown are totally fakeas there are not more than 4 lakhbeneficiaries only", he added.

Singh urged upon the ChiefMinister of the State andMinister for Social Welfare, BaliBhagat to kindly shelve the planof opening up of 3316 new "OnDemand" Anganwari centers.He also urged them to wind upall those Anganwari Centerswhich are having meager enroll-ment and club those AWCs inthe adjoining ones instead ofopening up of new centers.

He also urged them to takeappropriate action by handingover one of the big scam inICDS in the State to theVigilance Organization. If theGovernment failed to initiateany probe in the scam, then PILwill be filed in the High Court ofJ&K, he added.

NOWSHERA, Nov 3: Ateam of Forest officials headedby DFO Nowshera, DrArshdeep Singh, retrievedabout 101 kanals of Forest landfrom the possession ofencroachers in NowsheraForest Division.

In Sunderbani Range of thisDivision, the operation was ledby Range Officer VinodSharma. Accompanied by fieldStaff, the RO managed toretrieve 25 kanals of Forestland from the occupation ofthree encroachers inCompartment No. 31/B/Dfalling in Channi area ofSunderbani Range.

In yet another operation, ledby Forester Yash Paul, theForest team also retrieved near-ly 76 Kanals of forest landfrom compartment No. 40/D &47/ D of Thandapani area ofSunderbani Forest Range.

The operation was coordi-nated by the Conservator ofForests, West Circle, RajouriSameer Bharti. A warning hasalso been issued by the ForestDepartment to the personsinvolved against any suchattempt in future.

Further, the DFONowshera has ordered therepair of fencing of retrievedarea to prevent from beingencroached again in future.

In the workshop, ProfHimanshu Rai, Dean MISBBocconi, Mumbai and Professorof IIM Lucknow, acted as thekey resource person. Theyinteracted with the students,scholars and faculty to discussthe associations for businessprofessionals involved in strate-gy and strategic planning.

While discussing the impor-tance of Human interaction inmanagement, Prof Rai, who isan expert in negotiation man-agement, said that the mostessential aspect of handling con-flict is through developing nego-tiation abilities. He discussedthe development of NegotiationAbility and elaborated on thesignificance of communicationin the process of effective nego-tiation.

Through a combination of aseries of video presentations andhands-on exercises, Prof Raihighlighted the mistakes peoplemake while communicating andemphasized the relevance ofbody language in the process ofeffective communication.

The discussion was followedby a lively question and answersession where the studentsposed several questions relatedto the art of negotiation.

JAMMU, Nov 3: Akhnoorpolice arrested four gamblersalong with Rs 6360 stakemoney and playing cards fromSungal Morh area.

As per police sources, onspecific information, policeteam from Akhnoor police sta-tion conducted raid in SungalMorh area and nabbed fourgamblers along with Rs 6360stake money and playingcards.

Youth killedafter hit by train

JAMMU, Nov 3: A youthwas killed this morning on thespot when the scooty he wasgoing on was hit by a train inBajalta area of city outskirtswhile he was crossing the rail-way track.

According to a policespokesperson, DeepakChoudhary (25) son of RameshChoudhary, a resident of Khourin Akhnoor Tehsil of Jammudistrict (at present living inToph Sharkhania area of cityoutskirts), was crossing the rail-way track riding on his scootybearing registration NoJK02BG-8139 at Bajalta whenhe came in contact with ACSpecial Train, which was on itsway from Jammu to Katra.

In the mishap, the youth waskilled on the spot. His body wasshifted to Government MedicalCollege and Hospital, Jammu,where after conducting autopsyit was handed over to its legalheirs for last rites.

A case in this connection hasbeen registered at police stationGRP Jammu and further inves-tigations are underway.

SRINAGAR, Nov 3: A newborn baby today died at DistrictHospital Baramulla in northKashmir, triggering protests.

Reports said a pregnant ladywas referred to BaramullaHospital from Public HealthCentre (PHC) Sheeri in the dis-trict after she developed com-plications.

The relatives of the lady saidthat she was operated upon by afemale doctor and she gavebirth to a baby. "However thebaby died instantly due to med-ical negligence," they alleged.Relatives further alleged thatthe she was not referred on timefrom PHC Sheeri.

The death of the new borntriggered protests by relatives ofthe lady. They were demandingaction against the doctor andparamedical staff involved inthe delivery surgery.

Chief Medical Officer(CMO) Baramulla BashirAhmad Chalko told Excelsiorthat there was no negligence ontheir part. "The baby didn't dieof medical negligence," he said,adding that there were alreadycomplications.

30 samples offood items lifted

These items include AttaDheru, Atta Sangara, Finniya,Katlamas, Milk and Milk prod-ucts, etc, which are commonlyconsumed during the Navratrasand festivals.

The Food Safety officers,under the supervision ofAssistant Commissioner FoodSafety District Jammu (Rural),Ajeet Singh as per the directionsof Commissioner Food SafetyDivision Jammu, dispatched thesamples to Food AnalystJammu.

Objective of these inspec-tions was to ensure sanitary andhygienic conditions in thepremises of sweet shops andfood quality.

USTA strongly condemnedthe attitude of educationalauthorities at the helm of affairstowards the RIS teachers for notregularizing their services afterfive years and issuing order forverification time and again todelay the process of regulariza-tion. They have stressed uponthe State Government to releasesalaries of all categories of allcategories of teachers beforeDeepawali, as also release ofpending mid day meal charges.

The association has urged toState Government to settle thepending demands at an earliestotherwise USTA will be com-pelled to resort to agitationalpath.

Truck cleanerelectrocuted

youth was electrocuted when hecame in contact with a live wirewhile standing on a moving truck.

The deceased, identified asWasim Ahmad Dar (31), son ofRasool Dar of Handwara,Kupwara, was working ascleaner with the truckPB07N/7741, on which he wasstanding.

The truck was on way fromPunjab to Kashmir when themishap took place near DharRoad Round Domail. The victimwas rushed to the District HospitalUdhampur where doctorsdeclared him as brought dead.

Later, dead body of thedeceased was handed over afterpostmortem. A case in thisregard was also registered atRound Domail Police Post.

Electronic items gutted

REASI, Nov 3: Electronicitems and furniture worth moreRs 2 lakh were reduced toashes as a major fire broke outin `Shiva Electronic', a shoplocated adjoining Katra-Reasiroad, here today.

Cause of fire was stated tobe some short circuit in aninverter at the shop. Due tosudden fire, all inverters andsome other electronics itemswere burnt with the loss esti-mated between Rs 2 lakh to2.5 lakh.

The shop is owned by oneBablu of Reasi. He was repair-ing an inverter, when a blasttook place in its battery due toshort circuit, resulting intofire. Bablu managed to escapehimself even as all the itemswere burnt in the fire.

The blazes were controlledby Fire Department officialsand Police with the help oflocals.

The accused has been identi-fied as Rahul Sharma, son ofRajinder Sharma, a resident ofPaloura.

KISHTWAR, Nov 3: Apoliceman, who is son of a localBJP leader, has been arrested forassaulting a police officer heretoday.

As per police sources, policeconstable Yasir Firdous Giri hasbeen arrested for assaulting SubInspector (SI) Sikandar while hewas performing his duty heretoday.

Giri, the son of a leader ofBJP's Muslim Morcha, was trav-eling on his motorcycle when hewas stopped by policemen fortraffic violation near DakBungalow in Kishtwar.

He was asked by traffic copsto show valid documents of thevehicle, but Giri, instead of

cooperating, entered into a ver-bal dual with policemen andlater assaulted the SI.

Deputy SP (Operations)Kishtwar Irshad Ahangar, whowas passing through the area,stopped his vehicle after wit-nessing assembly of people andhearing noise. He ordered Giri'simmediate arrest beside seizureof his vehicle.

A FIR was lodged againsthim at police station Kishtwarand the matter was brought tothe notice of Commandant IRP6th Battalion about the miscon-duct of the erring police consta-ble, the police officer said.

Later, the cop got bail from aCourt. When contacted, SSPKishtwar, Sandeep Wazir con-firmed the incident.

Sex racket busted in KathuaExcelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Nov 3: Over tenpeople were detained as policetoday busted a sex racket beingrun in a hotel on Jammu -Pathankote National Highwayin Kathua.

"Acting on a tip-off, policeparty this afternoon conducteda raid in a hotel Rattan Palace atHatli Morh near here ," policesources said.

They said the racket wasbeing operated since long whileafter number of complaintslodged by unknown callers, araid was conducted by a policeParty led by SHO Women Cell,Kathua Sanjeevani Jyoti.

More than ten peopleincluding girls, have beendetained and the matter is beinginvestigated," police added.

Giving details SHOSanjeevani Jyoti said that the

police have received com-plaints since a long time that asex racket is being run in theHotel and today they raided thehotel and detained three girlsand seven boys. The police hasput them on sustained interro-gation to get more leads aboutthe sex racket being run in thehotel and lay hands on its kingpin.

She said the investigation isgoing on and police is investi-gating the role of hotel owner inthe racket. She said it appearsthat the girls are not the habitu-al but they have been draggedby some one and police isinvestigating every angle toreach out to culprits so that theycan be punished under law ofthe land.

Meanwhile, sources saidthat the police has also detainedthe manager and one reception-ist of the hotel.
