December 2015 Welcome to Cambridge Live 1. Background Information Cambridge Live We are a charity set up to act as a catalyst for inspiring cultural experiences that everyone can be part of. Our vision is for all Cambridge lives to be enriched by creative experiences. We currently reach over 300,000 people each year who engage in our activities which include:
Cambridge Corn Exchange: the largest regional arts venue with a max capacity of 1738 and annual performances of more than 220 events across many genres including rock, pop, comedy, dance, and more.
The Guildhall public venue which currently host over 150 diverse events attracting 35,000 visitors through promotions and hires.
Cambridge Folk Festival which celebrated its 50th birthday in 2014 with a capacity of 14,000 and over 250 performances, workshops and events over the weekend, widely acknowledged as a leading world folk festival.
Cambridge City Events – a programme of free public and community events that reach over 60,000 people, funded by Cambridge City Council to include Midsummer Fair, The Big Weekend, Bonfire Night, Jazz and Brass in the Parks and the Mayor’s Day Out.

Now in its 52nd year, the festival has featured legendary artists - Joan Armatrading, Emmylou Harris, Jimmy Cliff, Jools Holland and Van Morrison to name but a few. It also has been, and continues to be, a launch pad for new folk artists with an amazing before-they-were-famous back catalogue including KT Tunstall, Mumford & Sons, Laura Marling and Newton Faulkner. The festival is a regular sell out event with 14,000 people attending; it is broadcasted to around 13 million people nationwide via media partnerships including Sky Arts and BBC Radio 2. The Festival’s appeal goes beyond its enviable programme; set in a beautiful intimate park location with cool campsites, the festival aims to promote ethical and environmental responsibility and is a regular winner of A Greener Festival Award. Cambridge Folk Festival was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the 2014 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

Endless reinvention of traditions is the name of the Cambridge game, and “Folk” doesn't begin to cover the full range of what's on offer – Independent 4th August 2014 City Events https://www.cambridgelivetrust.co.uk/city-events Midsummer Fair: 22nd – 27th June 2016 This funfair and travelling market is a chartered event in the city’s calendar and has been taking place since the 1200s. The events sees a large travelling market and fairgrounds rides and food concessions from a variety of showmen promoters brought together on the Midsummer Common in Cambridge. The Big Weekend: 8-10th July 2016 This free community event takes place over a weekend in early July on Parker’s Piece in central Cambridge. The event sees a programme of professional music and dance performance alongside a community programme on a variety of stages, marquees and outdoor locations including sports, fireworks, comedy, cabaret, food, dance, an Asian Mela, contemporary and world music, storytelling, youth arts, visual art, technology, museum engagement and more. Jazz & Brass in the Parks: various dates June – September 2016 These concerts are free open air performances on a variety of green open spaces in the city on Sundays between June and September, performed by local jazz and brass bands with audiences of 500 per concert approx. The Mayor’s Day Out: August or September 2016 This is a ticketed trip for approx. 700 senior citizens promoted by the Mayor of Cambridge that sees them enjoy a day at Great Yarmouth including coach travel, a pier performance and a chance to chat to local Councillors. 5th November Fireworks: 5th November 2016 This is a free community event on Midsummer Common featuring a traditional bonfire, large scale fireworks display, food stalls and a funfair. It is attended by 20-30,000 people.
3. Job Description
Cambridge Live Job Description: Head of Events (fixed term)
JOB PURPOSE:
The Head of Events is a fixed term post providing maternity cover for the organisation’s Business
Development Director from March 2016.
The Head of Events will be responsible for overseeing the successful management, development and
delivery of the organisation’s major events programme including the Cambridge Folk Festival and
City Events.

The role differs from the current post-holder’s position to enable a senior management
professional with an event background to focus on the priorities of the event programme only.
This is NOT an operational event management position. The post-holder will be required to
oversee a team of event managers and personnel delivering events and will not be required to
manage or deliver the events themselves.
Key Challenges:
Development of event practices within the team to ensure a robust approach to event
delivery and Health & Safety.
Managing tight financial budgets and championing financial efficiency and cost-savings.
Building team rapport and motivation amongst both long-serving and new members of staff
in operational roles.
Acting as the lead liaison for key stakeholders on event matters including Board members,
Councillors, local residents and community partners.
Acting as mentor, supporter, challenger, and mediator within the event team.
Term: 8-12 months (term dependant on maternity leave taken by permanent post-holder) from
March 2016 onwards
Contract type: Flexible. We are happy to consider internal fixed term or freelance basis contracts.
Reports to: Operations Director
Direct Reports: City Events Manager, Folk Festival Event Manager and Production Manager
Salary: Negotiable, dependent on experience and nature of the contract.
Terms & Conditions: The post will attract 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (pro rata) if non-
freelance. Standard terms and conditions will be commensurate for the sector. Non-freelance
recruitments will also receive an 8% employer pension contribution.
Location: Primarily based on our offices in central Cambridge and relevant event locations in the
city.
Hours of work: Flexible. We are open to discussion about the hours and pattern of working for this
post. It is NOT anticipated that the post will be a full time position.
