It is not a PATS issue, if:

• The“ServiceEngineSoon”lightisilluminated.(InvestigatePCMsystem)

• ThereisnocommunicationswithPCM:PCMwillalwayscommunicateonthediagnosticlinkregardlessoftheftstatus.(InvestigatePCMsystem)

• Enginestallsonroad:Oncetheenginerunsforonesecond,PATSCANNOT disabletheengine.RunningstallsarenotPATSrelatedissues.

• RemoteEntry/KeylessEntryproblems:PATSiscompletelyseparatefromtheRemoteEntry/KeylessEntrysystems.

• Thereisano-crankproblemonvehicleswithoutPATSStarterdisable.Checkchart,onreverseside,forpresenceofStarterInterrupt.

• PATSTheftIndicatorflashesevery2secondsatIgnitionOFF.ThisisnormaloperationforPATStoactasavisualtheftdeterrent.Seechartonreversesideforapplicablesystem.

• PATSTheftIndicatorstaysonfor2or3seconds(dependingonsystemtype)atIgnitionRUNorSTARTandthenoff:ThisisnormaloperationforPATSproveoutonallvehiclesexceptLSandThunderbird.

Things to do:

• ReviewServiceProceduresandTechnicalServiceBulletins(TSBs)forlatestinformation.

• Disconnectthediagnostictoolfor20secondsbeforecyclingignitiontoOFF,ACC,orRUN.

• Whenreplacingignitionkeys,makesuretheownerthrowsoutALL oldkeys.

• DisconnectbatterycableswhenreplacingPATSmodule,ICM,VIC,HEC,SCIL,PCM,orEEC.

• LookforfaultcodesinPATS.ThePATSfunctionwillstorefaultcodeswhenthePCMrecordsaP1260.

• Becertainofthevehiclemodelyear.Useonlyparts&keysspecifiedfortheappropriatemodelyear.

• ChecktomakesuretheissueisnotwithmultiplePATSkeys,smallelectronicdevicesthatcanbeusedtopurchasegasoline,orotheritemsonsamekeyring.

• Checktoensurevehicledoesnothaveanaftermarketremotestarter.DisableanyRemoteStarterequipment,especiallyanythingnearbythePATSTransceiver.FordFCSDDealerinstalledRemoteStartersystemsareapprovedforuseinFordvehicles.

• Checktoensurevehicledoesnothaveanaftermarketengineimmobilizer.TheFordFCSDaftermarketremoteentrysystemcomeswithastarterinterruptthatshouldbedisabledonPATSequippedvehicles.

• IftheAlarmsoundswhentheignitionisturnedtoRUNorSTART,refertothePerimeterAlarmsectionoftheworkshopmanual.

Things NOT to do:

• DonotuseaftermarketkeysthatareNOT Fordqualified.

• Donotreprogramkeysunlessadefectivekeyorcontrolfunctionhasbeenreplaced.Reprogrammingkeysdoesnotfixanyknownproblembyitself.

• DonotperformmoreSecurityAccessfunctionsthanrequired:PerformonlythefunctionsspecifiedintheShopmanualforthisrepair.Selectionofextrafunctionsmaycontinuetheno-crankcondition.
