Prayer Shawl Ministry A job, a farm, an ageing parent,
illness. . .these are just some of the
things that constitute “life” and “life”
has affected our Prayer Shawl
Ministry this summer. Our hands will
continue to work at home for God’s
people as “life” allows. We will
continue our Thursday afternoons
together in the church library
beginning the first Thursday following
Labor Day, Sept 5, at 2:00. I ask you
to prayerfully consider joining us in
this fulfilling ministry. We would love
to have you.
There still are prayer shawls available
in the church office. If you see a
need for a tangible “hug” from Christ
for someone who is struggling, please
check with Vicki in the office or
Wendy Myers, Lorri Saulbeamer or
myself on Sundays.
As God cares, we care,
Katy Holbert, Prayer Shawl Ministry
Greetings Wesley Friends, The time for bell choir to begin practicing again is right around the corner and I have a lot of new and interesting ideas for music this year. For the very first time since I have been the bell choir director at Wesley, the bells were sent to Malmark for maintenance and repairs over the summer. Of course, this is a necessary service to keep them functioning and in good order and has been a ritual in years past. As a beloved part of Wesley church and even in the community (there are presently no other practicing bell choirs in town), it is with pride and honor that we serve through music. This year, I am asking for your help so that we may continue to be an integral part of the church service and the music program at Wesley. It is not often that the bell choir needs or asks for help, but due to the costs of new equipment needed (new cases and replacement parts), I am reaching out for support. I hope to resume weekly practices in August once the bells return, as they are scheduled to be sent back the end of this month. We are asking for $2,565 to help cover the costs of maintenance and repair, which will ensure that bells remain operable and in good working order for the next three years. I truly feel that this is a small price to pay for the joy and tradition that bells have offered the church and community in years past and for years to come. Any assistance is very much appreciated; if willing and able to help the bell choir cover these expenses please contact Dennis or Vicki. Thank you very much and again, thank you for welcoming me and keeping me in your church family. It has been and is a great place to be and I am looking forward to another year. All the very best, Anne Tempel Wesley Bell Choir Director

From the Pastors Desk….
Do you like the quiet? I thought I did, but as I sit on my couch writing this, there is all kinds of noise around and
it’s great. If I listen closely, I can hear cars whizzing by down Broadway. My wonderful children are singing
and laughing, while at the same time watching a video on an iPad. I have the TV turned on, and I’m not even
watching it. Do I like quiet? There are times when the quiet is great.
Finding quiet time is important, and it can be difficult to find quiet in the noisy world around us. Finding God in
the stillness and quiet is where we expect to find God. Slowing down can make room for the influence of the
Holy Spirit in our lives. In the gospels, Jesus will go off from the hustle and bustle of his world to a quiet place
to pray. We are encouraged to do the same.
I challenge you to find God at work in the chaos of our world too. Jesus wasn’t afraid of chaos. Jesus walks in
the midst of a crowded street on his way to heal a Jewish leader’s sick daughter (Mark 5:21ff). On the way, a
woman who has been hemorrhaging for 12 long years touches the fringe of Jesus’ cloak. She wants to be healed,
but doesn’t want to be noticed. Jesus is aware that power had gone out from him. When the woman fearfully
confesses she touched him, Jesus compliments her on her faith and tells her to depart in peace.
Even in the midst of chaos, God is with us. Jesus can calm storms and heal brokenness. Jesus is with us even
when it is loud and crazy. Don’t forget that Holy Spirit is always with us in the quiet and in the chaos. Jesus
does not abandon us. Look for the presence of God in the peace and quiet, and be aware that God is with us in
the noisiness and craziness of our lives. You don’t need to look far to find that God is with us.
In Christ,
Dennis
