Surgically Oriented Hands-on Workshop

Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) Surgery International Course

Prior to approaching any surgical procedure, a sound knowledge of surgical field anatomy is mandatory. For this reason, this course was created with a real practical orientation, specifically dedicated to the most popular and up-to-date surgical procedures available for snoring and obstructive sleep apnea/hyponea syndrome (OSAHS). Anatomical, clinical and surgically oriented lectures; anatomical dissection under strict supervision; and clinical case discussions represent the key points of this hands-on course. A movie-guided dissection perfectly represents our personal philosophy of a “step-by-step” approach. The face-to-face relationship between the faculty and participants makes this course an important starting point for all specialists who want to explore sleep-breathing-disorder surgery.

Objectives

(1) Identify which patients would benefit from surgery for OSAS

(2) Identify the site(s) of upper-airway obstruction and describe the nature of the obstruction

(3) Recognize which surgery (or surgeries) best eliminates the airway obstruction and provides the best results

(4) Illustrate how to perform the surgery chosen to produce the expected results

(5) Explain post-operative recovery and possible complications of surgery
