OUR HISTORY

Since 1960 the National Trust of Australia (Tasmania) (“the Trust”) has been actively working towards conserving and protecting our heritage for future generations. The Tasmanian Government has recognised the role of the Trust through legislation, most recently in 2006. The Trust is an independent not-for-profit organisation supported by its members and the community. It is the principal cultural heritage and conservation organisation in our state, and the major operator of house museums and historic properties open to the public on behalf of the Tasmanian community.

The Vision of the National Trust of Australia (Tasmania) is to ensure that Tasmania’s heritage endures and is valued, understood and enjoyed by successive generations.

OUR MISSION

The Mission of the Trust is to engage the community in identifying, conserving and interpreting Tasmania’s heritage.

OUR PRIORITIES

Central to the Trust’s ability to achieve its objectives will be establishing its financial sustainability and eventually financial independence. During the next five years the Trust will need to increase and broaden its operational income to support its:-

• RoleasadvocateforTasmania’sculturalheritage.

• Capitalprogramforthemaintenanceandconservation of its properties and collections.

• Communitybasedheritageinitiatives.• Heritageeducationprogramswiththeirfocus

on youth.

Four key strategies have been identified as being the major focus of this five year strategic plan. These four strategies will shape the way in which the Trust develops.

Our four key strategies for the period 2009 – 2014 are:
