in co-operation

• Unique assets

• Special pigments

• Special binders and additives

• Special mixing/slurry makedown

• In co-operation strength and synergies

• Prelimenary market study lead to the decission to start up barrier project in

2013.

• TEKES has strongly supported development work two TEKES funded

projects and one European Comission Horizon 2020 project.

• As a result BAR-product family ready for selected segments. New

developmets for more demanding requirements.

Sustainable barrier solution

CHP BAR 3200

Sustainable PE and fluorochemical replacement

• Solid content 50 %

• Commercial customers both for specialty papers and packaging boards

• Converting properties, runnability at sheet fed offset, heat sealing and side

gluebility proven in commercial scale

• CH Polymers works with customers to improve base sheet and

papermaking process to even further improve barrier properties

• Existing applications:

Hamburger wraps and boxes, sandwich boxes, other fast food boxes,

disposable plates, bakery products

•Tested for Ice cream boxes and for frozen food.

in co-operation

• Excellent mineral oil migration resistance (over 90% reduction)

• Good solvent resistance (KIT, 4-12)

• Good water resistance and Water Vapor Transmission Rate

(WVTR)

• Low blocking tendency

• Not heat sealable

Sustainable barrier solution

CHP BAR 2200

in co-operation

Our solutions meet the increasing environmental requirements

and targets (2018, 2020…) already today:

• For packaging paper and board, suitable for food contact

• BfR XXXVI and FDA §176.170 approved

• The indicative migrations based on EU Commission standard 2016-0523 are at

acceptable levels (MPPO, 2 hours in 70 °C , Ethanol, 2 hours, 60 °C and MPPO,

0,5 hours, 200 °C, Inventia, Sweden)

• Re-pulpable and recyclable (tested in Åbo Akademi against PE)

• Barrier coated paper shows > 80% biodegradation in controlled composting test

(45 day) (OWS, Belgium)

• Bio based (SA and Biofraction) and contain pigments
