•The European Union (EU) is an economic and political union of 27 member states, located primarily in Europe.•The EU was established by the Treaty of Maastricht on 1 November 1993 upon the foundations of the European Economic Community.•It has almost 500 million citizens.

•The European Union has established a single economic market across the territory of all its members •The countries that have de euro are:

•Spain•France•Belgic•Low Countries•Finland•Germany•Italy•Greece•Portugal•Slovenia•Ireland•Luxembourg•Austria•Cyprus•Malta

The European Union was born in 1951 to end up with the conflicts between neighboring countries

that had culminate in the Second World War.

● In order to coordinate the economies of member countries, the European Union has designed a series of common policies. ● There are three common types of policies: • Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) • Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) • Cohesion Policy

The common policy is a system of European Union agricultural subsidies and programmes. It represents 48% of the EU's budget

The CAP combines a direct subsidy payment for crops and land which may be cultivated with price support mechanisms

It has 2 funds:

1. European Fund of Orientation and Agricultural Guarantee

2. European Agricultural Fund for the Rural Development

•It means Fishing Common Politics

•Its objetictive is to support the fishing European developments getting its viable companies that produce in a sustainable way to avoid the depletion of the fishing resources

•Principal instrument of funding: European fund of fishing

• Its function: to compensate the imbalances between the poorest and richest of the EU.

• It has three objectives:• The convergence• Regional competitiveness and employment• Territorial cooperation

• There are three funds:• European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)• European Social Fund (ESF)

• Cohesion Fund
