Our Problem
• Yearly consumption of oil, coal & gas requires 1 Mio years to be generated • Energy burnout estimation by „Weltenergierat in Paris“
– Oil: 40 years – Gas: 50 years – Uranium: 60 years (400 nuclear power plants)
(> 100,000 years of nuclear radiation) – Coal: 120 years
• Every hour we extinct 1 animal species and 60 plant species every day • Every week we blast ½ billion tons of greenhouse gas into the environment
– 1% yearly reduction of the ozone layer density – Global warming
We burn the future of our children Source: Spiegel-‐Online 9.3.2013
Solutions • Only nuclear power provides sufficient and long lasting energy • Use modern global outsourcing strategy for nuclear power plant • Use nuclear power of our closest star – the sun
– Predicted operating time: 4,5 billion years – Energy availability per day:
• 10,000 - 15,000 times more than our daily worldwide use • Provides global energy demand for 180 years • In the form of wind power we have 80 times more energy than our daily worldwide use • Growing bio mass provides 10 times more energy than our daily worldwide use • Water power alone would allow to provide the daily worldwide energy demand

Paradigm Change
• Change from “Centralized Energy Production“ to “Decentralized Energy Production“
• Private house power plants “Energy Plus Homes“
– Generation of electricity by photovoltaics & wind – Generation of heat and warm water by heat pump – Storage of electricity in battery – Electricity balance by grid connection

Critical Thinking • Paradigm Change is not compatible with the business
interests of large energy providers
– Energy provision is a multi billion € market – Today, 1 out of 60 households relies on internal
energy generation
We have to Act
Our Vision for The Solar Panel Project
for Sustainability
Through Learning and Fundraising Promoting Local and Global Action
DIS aims to educate and motivate its international community to
“Go Green“ To protect and enrich our shared
Environment
The "DIS goes Solar" project is part of the 21st century learning initiative which
Dresden International School launched at the beginning of 2012-13.
Major Focus:
Practical, „Hands-on“ Learning
Beginning with 10 Solar Kits
Implementing a Solar Lab with 10 solar panels (power: 1,4 KW generating ~ 10 KWh/sunny day)
Control/Monitor Panel Charging Station for BYOD Program Internal use cost savings on electricity bill ~1000€/yr
A Visionary concept for DIS ~ Generating Electricity for our own use!
DIS goes Green
The DIS Solar Project for Sustainability has a full Pedagogical integration at all
Grade levels of the DIS Curricula. Beginning with the Units of Inquiry :
EYP level - introducing the Concept of Light
PYP level - discovering the climate‘s effects and natural sources of clean energy
MYP level - exploring renewable and non-renewable resources, as well as the actual planning, building and implementation of the solar project
to the DP level wherein the focus continues to be on the actual monitoring and controls of the solar project structure‘s energy storage and usage as a complete model ...and onwards, ensuring DIS students become globally-minded responsible citizens of the world, at the forefront of future viable &
sustainable energy evolutions.
DIS goes Green
For Solar Visionaries
Please Help Support DIS in its aim to educate, motivate and spread
the Dresden International School‘s Solar Energy initiative
to the entire Dresden community... and beyond.
“DIS Goes Solar“
To protect and enrich our shared Environment
