That’s why nota single onehas been cutdown to make our furniture.

We believe our line of furniture is truly a sustainable solution for property owners and those in the hospitality industry – hotels, resorts and rental villas –who need to create stylish and comfortable living spaces outdoors while keeping costs under control.

But furniture is just the beginning for us. We are already adding new lines of products – glassware, flatware, towels and linen – that are needed by the hospitality industry. And they are all being carefully chosen with the same criteria in mind: elegant but hardwearing; helping to save money and Planet Earth at the same time.

We plan to expand our product range continually. And we will search the world for sources whose products match our philosophy of sustainability and our standards for style and durability.

You have our word on it.

My name is Auliana Poon, and for more than a decade my consultancy, Tourism Intelligence International (TII), has been helping governments and tourism agencies around the world to develop blueprints for sustainable tourism. Indeed, sustainability is at the heart of every program and initiative we develop or recommend. We know the wear and tear that tourism can inflict on environments, despite its many benefits. Also, my family owns a luxury rental property – Villa Being – on the island of Tobago in the Caribbean, and sustainability is our watchword here, too. Villa Being grows much of its own fruits and vegetables, shops with local providers first and foremost, and goes to great lengths to do as little harm as possible to Mother Nature and her resources. But we have learnt first-hand what every property owner in the hospitality industry knows, particularly in the Caribbean: Mother Nature herself causes considerable wear and tear, especially on the furniture we use

outdoors. After years of

replacing such furniture at Villa Being, as well as other

furnishings and fittings, we were determined to find a long-term solution to the problem. So we went in search of a product that would meet specific criteria. Obviously, it would have to be made of a material that would withstand the elements. At the same time, however, we insisted that this material would place little pressure on the planet’s diminishing resources. In addition, the furniture would have to be stylish and very comfortable, in keeping with the standards of our property. Well, we found what we were looking for. And we were so excited by the benefits this product holds for the hospitality industry in the Caribbean – for other rental villa owners, hoteliers, and ordinary home-owners – we decided to bring it to market. We are doing so through Being Sustainable, a new business venture that perfectly expresses the philosophy that Tourism Intelligence International has long promoted to its clients. This exciting line of affordable, durable, low-maintenance yet stylish furniture is truly an example of practicing what we preach. We are pleased and proud to be able to offer this new line to you. We are confident that you will appreciate it not only for its environmentally friendly manufacture, but also for its practicality, cost effectiveness, comfort and tasteful design.

Yours sincerely,

Welcome to theworld ofBeing Sustainable.

At first glance, you’d swear our furniture is made of wood. But not a single tree has been harvested to make it. The threatened forests of Asia and South America are safe from us. The Being Sustainable line is actually made of recycled plastic milk bottles. This substance is so tough and durable that it is used for many outdoor purposes, including roofing. Because of this, our line offers numerous advantages over furniture made of wood, rattan and even metal. There is no need for stripping, sanding, painting or varnishing. And it won’t rust or collect mould or mildew. You can leave our furniture outdoors, in rain or shine, all year long. And it’s more than a match for sea spray and salt air. In effect, it is virtually maintenance-free. And that’s a cost-saving right there.

Although our furniture is made from recycled material, there is nothing “second- hand” or crude about its appearance. Quite the contrary: the Being Sustainable line isfresh, stylish and contemporary in look and finish. We like to describe it as “furniture with an attitude”. That attitude is vibrantly expressed not only in design but also in range of colour. There is traditional white, along with teak and mahogany, but also black, green, Pacific blue, sunset red, tangerine and lemon. And of course we also supply cushions in a wide choice of

hardwearing, as well as waterproof outdoor fabrics.

For permanent residents and visitors alike, Caribbean living means outdoor living. What better way to relax than to take in a sunset, linger over drinks and a meal, or find a shady alcove in which to read or sleep? But all this means having comfortable, well-supporting furniture to sit and lounge on. We have designed our line precisely to meet such requirements. Because of this, our loungers, club chairs, Adirondack chairs, love seats and sofas are perfect for verandahs, terraces and al fresco dining areas. Foot-rests and side- and coffee-tables complete the collection. If you are in the hospitality industry, such comfort can add to your bottom line. Many of TII’s clients have optimized the use of their properties and increased food and beverage revenues by providing a variety of comfortable seating areas for guests.
