Yoon Sae Bom GraceForeign Legal Consultant at Shin & Kim

I am currently working as a newly minted foreign legal consultant atShin & Kim, the equivalent of a first-year associate in the UnitedStates. After leaving Ewha, I received my J.D. from the University OfIllinois College Of Law, passed the New York and New Jersey barexams, and promptly returned to Seoul to join the Antitrust practicegroup of our firm. The cases that we deal with here are challengingand exciting, and I am happy to have made Shin & Kim my new home.I became part of DIS in 2004 (and my sister followed in 2005). Duringthe time I was a student at Ewha, I have learned that DIS is a programthat is so open to opportunities if you seek them. All DIS students arearmed with a diverse curriculum, various extracurricular activities, and a wide network of alumni. They have the support of professorsthat truly care about their students, and lifelong friends. DIS was thestepping stone to my becoming a lawyer and I am grateful to havebeen a part of this program.

Kim Yu RanUpon graduating Ewha in August 2010 with a double major inInternational Relations and the Scranton Honors Program, I decided toenter LSE s Masters Program in Comparative Politics(DemocracyStream). There, I had the opportunity to study the political nationbuilding processes and the development paths of various states from acomparative perspective. While studying shoulder to shoulder with themost outstanding students from all over the world, I was continuouslystimulated and challenged. Through challenges, I look back to see Ihave grown both academically and personally. I also realized that thetime I spent at Ewha DIS and the things that I learned there throughclasses and interactions with fellow students helped me greatly toadjust in the new and challenging environment. After I finished myMaster s degree at LSE, I was offered a position at the KoreaDevelopment Institute, Center for International Development. As theprogram officer, I manage the Knowledge Sharing Program which is apolicy consulting program for developing countries and countries intransition. Every day is new and exciting as my job allows me to applythe theoretical knowledge I ve gained at Ewha DIS and LSE to realworld situations through opportunities to travel to various parts of theworld and meet with governmental officials from partner countries.

Job Placement ofDIS GraduatesShin JiyonI graduated in August 2008 from Ewha DIS (class of 2004) with a

concentration in Northeast Asian Security and Politics and a minor inKorean Studies. I realized my passion lies in being part of providing

and executing tangible solutions, such as governance in municipalgovernment. Since my commencement, I worked for two years at theSeoul Metropolitan Government s Urban CompetitivenessHeadquarters as an International Program officer. The greatexperience encouraged me to apply for the Master s program in UrbanPlanning at New York University Robert F. Wagner Graduate School ofPublic Service. My specialization is in Economic Development andHousing, and I plan to return to Korea in order to work in thegovernment at a municipal or national level. If I look back the coursesof experience and events that led me to where I am, I can affirm thatEwha DIS played a significant role through its interdisciplinarycurriculum that focuses on international perspectives as well as highlycompetent faculty members with different educational andprofessional backgrounds. Another valuable quality of Ewha DIS, Ibelieve, is the diversity of the student body. I learned so much from myclassmates by interacting and communicating during classes and

    student club activities.

Lee Jee HeeAs a graduate of DIS, class of 2006, I am currently working inJPMorgan Chase Bank, Seoul Branch. As a member of BigInner, I hada chance to analyze business cases and have discussions and debateswith students. The diverse courses and opportunities at DIS allowedme to get a glimpse of the world I would be stepping into when Igraduated to find a job, and the energetic school environment andpeers allowed me to have confidence that nothing is impossible. I amcurrently in the corporate banking sector, dealing with foreigncompanies located in Korea as customers. There are over 200companies from various sectors including Burberry, Cisco, andconsulting firms like Accenture. The bank is run like other retailbanking systems, but with major international companies as targets. The companies invest, save, charge, and loan capital throughJPMorgan Chase Bank. We handle their local and internationalpayments, abiding by local regulations to prevent any fraudulentactivities. I have been with JPMorgan Chase Bank for over five years, and I coordinate all monthly and yearly conferences with over 100participants. The experience at DIS allowed me to have the ability tocompete in harsh conditions and gain leadership and confidence. Ibelieve DIS will help students to experience a variety of academiccourses and at the same time, learn about the real society.
