Dave Sinclair Ford located in South County St. Louis, was searching for a cost effective, effi cient, and reliable way to connect the dealership’s voice and data network to their newly acquired off-site customer service center.

Steve Boemler, of Dealership Computer Consulting, provides IT solutions for multiple dealerships in the St. Louis area and Tim Ruddy, System Administrator for the Dave Sinclair Automotive Group, says Primary Systems helped them come up with the most cost effective, time effi cient, and benefi cial solution to achieve their objective.

The Answer

At the outset, Dave Sinclair Ford took the time to lay out all of their options and heavily weighed the costs and benefi ts of each solution. Eventually, they came up with three solutions but had to decide on one, (1) integrate a standard T1 and pay a monthly service charge and settle for less bandwidth, (2) run underground fi ber cable and in the process subject themselves to unnecessary construction, labor costs, and inconveniencing their customers, or (3) fi nd a wireless solution that wouldn’t require service charges, additional labor costs, and would allow them to receive the benefi ts they were seeking. “In the end, it was a no brainier to go with Primary Systems and the Motorola Wireless solution,” said Boemler.

Primary Systems implemented Motorola’s Point-to-Point (PTP) 300 Ethernet 5.4 and 5.8 GHz Integrated Bridge providing affordable, reliable, and high-performance connectivity. With the achievement of 50 megabits per second (Mbps) of continuous bandwidth, Primary Systems was able to provide Dave Sinclair Ford with a huge amount of bandwidth they would not have received with other solutions. To put it into perspective, it would have taken a DS3, equivalent to 28 T1 lines (Dave Sinclair would have only needed one T1), to achieve 45 Mbps, which still does not achieve the 50mbps that one Motorola PTP 300 was able to achieve.

“Had we decided to go with the traditional T1 solution or run fi ber cable we would have been provided with less bandwidth (1.544 Mbps) monthly service costs ($300-600), and unnecessary construction/labor costs that might have exceeded the budget of the project,” said Ruddy. Instead, we did our research and went with the solution provided by Primary Systems and received greater bandwidth, no monthly service fees, no added construction costs, and even received the Quality of Service (voice before data) that we needed,” Ruddy stated.

The Point to Point (PTP) 300 Ethernet Bridges are designed to reliably transport data, voice and video communications in virtually any environment – non-line-of-sight, high-interference and long-range line-of-sight paths, over water and open terrain, even in extreme weather conditions. Dave Sinclair Ford was a clear “line of sight” (LoS) project. As a direct result of the project being LoS, the dealership didn’t have to encompass all the high-end functionality of the PTP 300 Bridge, allowing Primary Systems to provide Dave Sinclair Ford with the cost effective and benefi cial solution for the present and even future ventures.

“Even though we didn’t have the need to utilize the full capabilities of the system, we love having the fl exibility of being able to utilize the untapped functionality in the future,” said Ruddy.

“We are thrilled with the solution provided by Primary Systems. We are happy to report that we have not had any issues and we are on schedule to receive a ROI within the fi rst 18 months, which is indicative to the work Primary Systems put into their solution,” Boemler happily stated. “I would defi nitely recommend this solution to anyone.”
