Idea & Conceptual ApproachThe goal of this task was it to learn more about the classic part of our “business”.I decided to hold my presentation about the 70s-game “Space Invaders”, because of its very classic character. It was a great technical milestone in game history and everybody should un-derstand why it has to be popular.

Space Invaders Arcade Machines

Costum hardware had to be designed anyway: not powerful enough

Example: increasing speed of invaders➔ Fewer invaders – faster rendering➔ problem became part of game play

First released in cocktail table format with black & white displays

In Western: upright cabinets using orange & green celophane to simulate color➔ Graphics reflected onto a painted back

IdeaA paper bag is a paper bag is a paper is bag - is everything. That’s why I choosed this topic for my “50 Ways” task. I tried to visualize paper bags in every point of view. So a cigarette pack is as much a paper bag as a surgeon hat. My favourite was the bottle in the paper bag which I used to tell a teaching story about alcohol abuse.

Before & AfterIdeaWhat could have happened before a man sits in his bath tub with a little toy ship. And what have could happen after? A naplet him sink deeper under water straight into a faint. He “awakes” on...in...somewhere around his little toy ship - in distress. But the real awakening so far away. A fight between death and life.

Einstein’s PlayroomIdeaSid Vicious was a rockstar. Sex, drugs and Rock ‘n Roll - that’s what he’s famous for. However, the latter he commands not like a musician should. Sid was a horrible bassist and not a bet-ter punk. He used to live in a little pretty house near Warwick Avenue, London - a drug addict’s home in the middle of the paradise. Rubbish, rests of food, heroin, dope, ... . My home is my...?

Character· there were variuos ideas of character design ·· we wanted the character to look like a fast drawn doodle likewise every bored student does when he wants to distract himself ·· a pure 3D model could have been nice as well, but we decided for a painted paper ·

· Storyline – Short film – FINAL PROJECT – Unexpected ·

The camera focuses on a hand of a stressed student from behind. The camera switches between the persons hand, which writes and erases the written text again and again. The camera slides slowly to the right top of the paper and shows a little doodle. The person throws her pen away and scrunches the paper enraged. Tired of this stressful job he stands up and leaves the workplace taking cigarettes. The camera shows his desk and focuses on the rumpled paper, which starts to jiggle. There appears the doodle crawling out off the paper ball.

After the little man stood up he looks at the worksheet and the pancil and walks to the end of the desk . Then he’s turning around and concentrates on the pencil.

He lifts his arms and let the pencil float. The pencil get lifted and flies over to the sheet. With some arm moves the doodle makes the pencil write on the sheet.

In the next scene the person is coming back and appears in the left corner of the screen. The doodle abruptly turns to her. ---Black screen---

Film

First steps

· After we set up an idea for the story we searched for an loaction and made an Animatic ·

· We started to film our real world scenes with a Canon 5D Mark II to get background bluring·

Technique

· for the 3D doodle model we used a drawing, preferable a front and a side view ·

· In Cinema 4D we used poly modeling and made the body smooth with hypernurbs ·

· Inserting joints for the skeletton was the first rigging part ·

· The bones are construced for a human like movement ·

· Due to time problems we have to use Poser for the walkcycles ·

· For the rigging we used hierarchy constraints, so we just have to move the null objects

after animating the movements of the doodle we set up the textures ·

· The eyes and the mouth are also animated as textures in cinema 4D ·

· The mapping of 2D animations and film corrections were made in Adobe After Effects the film cut was made in Final Cut ·
