English: - This week we are learning the story of ‘The Gruffalo’

Can you draw a picture of the Gruffalo and describe what he looks like?
Challenge:
1. Draw the Gruffalo and write key words to describe him e.g. big, strong
2. Draw the Gruffalo and write sentences to describe him using the sentence starters:
‘He is… or he has...’ e.g. he is big, he has a black tongue.
3. Can you write your own sentences to describe the Gruffalo?
Remember to encouage the children to have a go at the spellings themselves, using sounds we
have already learnt e.g. at this stage we would expect the children to write the word ‘tongue’ by
using their robot arms to segment the word and then writing down the sounds they can hear
t-u-ng.
Theme- Today the children will be using purple mash and completing the 2Do activity by making
a monster picture.
You will create a picture and use the words to label your picture. Think about the character of
your monster and describe it to your grown up. Is it kind or scary?

Today we will be labelling the different parts of the Gruffalo
Challenge:
1. Write the body parts in the correct box (back, hand, tail, leg, chin and tusk)
2. Write an adjective to describe the body parts e.g. long tail, soft hand
3. On a separate piece of paper, write a sentence about each body part
e.g. The Gruffalo has a soft hand
Remember to use your sound mat and robot arms to help.

The use of language is important here: heavier, lighter, weigh the same, balanced scales, empty,
full, predict, how do you know?
Follow up activity:
Challenge 1: Explore what happens when you place two objects on the balance scales. What do
you notice?
Challenge 2: Can you use the key vocabulary to describe what happened? ‘The peddle was
heavier than the leaf.’
Challenge 3: Can you draw what happened e.g. draw the balance scales with two objects to
demonstrate heavier, lighter, balanced scales.

What is a want? A want is something you would like to have, something that might make your
life more comfortable or enjoyable. It is not necessary for survival and it’s something you can
live without. e.g. toys, chocolate.

Challenge 1: Go on a hunt to find some objects that will fit inside a matchbox/small container.
Think about the size and length of each object you find.
Challenge 2: Describe the objects that you put inside your matchbox/small container e.g. the
pasta piece was small and thin. Use key vocabulary.
Challenge 3: How many objects fit inside your matchbox/small container altogether? Can you
record your work e.g. draw the objects? Add on the fives-frame. Theme: This week we are learning about measuring please try the following method for making
playdough. You can adapt the activity if you do not have the ingredients for this task.
