Camas High School senior Ashley Atkins is one of those people who hold the world to-gether with their conviction and tenacity. One of her teachers states that she listens with courtesy, takes a lively interest in the world around her and uses reason rather than emo-tion to arrive at positions on issues. Once she has made up her mind, though, she is con-vinced and very convincing. Her intelligence and self-confidence make her a natural lead-er, and she excels at using resources and per-suasion to problem-solve. She is also a DECA officer and qualified for state DECA competi-tion. She helps in the Lunch Box when need-ed and has been a great mentor to younger students. Thanks Ashley!

Camas student earns his Eagle honorsDuncan Stuart recognized in recent ceremony

Duncan Stuart of Camas has earned

his Eagle Scout award, the highest honor the Boy Scouts of America of-fers.

He was hon-ored in a cer-emony on Sun-day, March 18 at Columbia P resby ter ian Church in Van-couver.

He is a member of Boy Scout Troop 565 of Cam-as, and one of approxi-mately 5 percent of all scouts who earn Eagle Scout ranking, accord-ing to Scoutmaster Steve Andros.

Each candidate must

earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community or church-related project.

For his project, Stu-art removed an old brick chimney at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in

Washougal. He also sta-

bilized and patched the inner walls in prepa rat ion for new outer paneling to be installed. These improve-ments helped

keep water from leaking into the

church. Stuart is a member of

Columbia Presbyterian Church and is active in the Camas-Washougal Rockets soccer team.

He is a senior at Cam-as High School, and the son of Robert and Geri Stuart.

Local woman featured in WSU art show

Kathi Rick of Camas will be one of the artists fea-tured in Washington State University Vancouver’s “LOUD and Clear” exhib-it. It includes a month-long showing beginning Friday, April 6. It is a collaboration between WSU Vancouver’s creative media & digital culture program and the

North Bank Artists Gal-lery.

Along with art, visitors to the gallery will see vid-eos, 3D animation, video and sound installations, and radio art by Rick and others.

A launch party will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 6.

The exhibit and other performances will take place throughout the rest of the month.

Camas students earn dean’s list honors

Several local students were named to the Seattle Paci� c University autumn quarter dean’s list. To be named to the list, students must earn at least a 3.5 GPA and complete 12 grad-ed credits.

They include: Olivia Christine Clements, Mar-tin Jensen Horn, Jason David Jay, Natalie Skye Longley, Rachel Elizabeth Stenberg and William Gale VanCuren, all of Camas.

Cole named to dean’s list

Athena Cole of Camas has been named to the dean’s list at Cornell Uni-versity for the fall 2011 se-mester.

She was awarded with “excellence in scholarship” for the college of arts and sciences.

Local student graduates from Concordia

Molly Sien of Camas has earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Concordia University.

She graduated in De-cember 2011.
