PROJECT: BELINUP WALK TRAIL

Outcomes

Gabbie Kylie wascontracted by DEC todevelop a heritage walktrail at Belinup Hill, nearThomas River, Cape AridNational Park.

The purpose was to designa path for visitors thatminimizes damage tosignificant cultural featureswhile providing anopportunity to experiencethe rich and diversecultural and ecologicallandscape.

PROJECT: SALISBURY ISLAND AND GREATWHITE SHARK MONITORING

Outcomes

Gabbie Kylie carried out aheritage survey on theremote Salisbury Island atthe same time as workingwith WA Dept of Fisheriesand local Abalone diversto set out trackingreceivers for taggedGreat White Sharks.

PROJECT: INTERPRETATION

Outcomes

Gabbie Kylie has developed several walk trails, interpretive signs, and developing a Museum Display, with plans todevelop a regional heritage trail and interpretation plan with DEC.

STRATEGIC PLANNING 1: COMMUNITYEMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING

Plans

Gabbie Kylie has developed a long-term community training and employmentprogram focussed on conservation and land management and development oftrained Indigenous Rangers while working on the range of Gabbie Kylie projects andthroughout the DEC estate.

This plan requires approval and input from DEC and long-term funding has yet to besecured.

STRATEGIC PLANNING 2: BUSINESS PLANAND SOCIAL ENTERPRISE

Gabbie Kylie has developed a business plan and now investigating avenues for establishing theoperation as a social enterprise focused on Cultural NRM.

STRATEGIC PLANNING 3: INTEGRATEDRESEARCH PROGRAMME

Gabbie Kylie is planning to develop a long-term research programme that integrates the variouspartners and diverse fields of science and social science that will contribute to the overallsustainability of the community program while providing high-level research outcomes in a number offields. The team has been actively hosting a number of MA and PhD student projects, presented at anumber of conferences around the world and published aspects of the model and research inacademic journals.

Gabbie Kylie is planning to expand the successful field school program with a focus on education andheritage tourism. This requires the development of an international marketing strategy to support thisunique component of the overall program.
