Mr. Fullerton was a member of die Muons ud the BIW Foremen's Club, and was i trUitee of Sabino Colony Association. ·

Surviving are his wife of Bath; two daughters, Ann F. Spencer of Manchester, N.H., and AUce J. Woodman of West Buxton; a brother, 1bomas W. Fullerton of Bath; a sister, Ruth London, also of Bath, and three grandchil· dren.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thunday at David E. Desmond Funeral Home, 638 High St. Tbe Rev. Vicki L. Woods will officiate. Burial will be iD Oak Grove Ceme­tery.

WESTBROOK - John A. Fullerton. 69, died unexpec­tedly Sunday evening at his 165 Spring St. home.

He was employed by the S. D. Warren Co. for more than 40 years, retiring five years ago. During World War II he ~as employed at the New England Shipyard, South Portland.

He served as a substitute crossing guide and for many years was assistant scout­master of Troop 83. For sev­,eral years he coached Babe Ruth League baseball here.

Mr. Fullerton moved here 59 years ago from New Brunswick, where he was born in Albert County, .the

son o( William and Beatrice Sinclair Fullerton. He at­tended schools here.

He was a member of Temple Lodge, AF & AM. the Westl;lrook UnJte4Meth­odist Church and the. West· brook Senior Citizens Club.

76, of 41 Beacon St.; died Mon-• day, Dec. 30, 1996, at Mid Coast

Hospital, Brunswick. He .was born Sept. 25, 1996, in

Bath , the son of Charles and , Bertha Campbell Furber. He graduated from Morse High School In 1939 and entered the • Army Air Corp dur ing World War II.

On Nov. 24, 1948, he married Maxine Pinkham.

He worked as a machinist for Hyde Windless until It became • part of Bath Iron Works. He then worked as a tech writer for BIW; retired in 1984.

Mr. Furber was a worldwide traveler; visiting China, Japan, New Zealand, Austra!Ja, J;;urope and the outer regions of Alaska, mostly after 1990 when he was dlagnosed with cancer.

He was a master of the Polar Star Masonic Lodge in Bath, member of the Fir st Baptist Church in Bath for over 60 years, and the 39ers of Morse HighSchool.

He was an avid sports fan and 10lfer and enjoyed camping, square dancing, and spending time with his family and grand­daughters.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Maxine B. Furber of Bath; a son, W!lllam E. Furber of Topsham; a daughter, Jean F. McPhail of Bath; a brother; Nor­man Furber of Epsom, N.H.; three sisters, Harr iet Carter of Bath, Mary Merrill and Jane Short. both of Nashua. N.H.; two granddaughters, Barbara McPhall and Susan McPhail, both of Bath; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of hb life will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Bath,

. with the Rev. Frank Rolfe offici­ating. Burial wlll be In Oak Grove Cemete~ Bath. •

Visiting hours will be today from 6-8 p.m. at Mayo, Curtis & Hlll Funeral Home. Bath.

I He was born in York, Maine, a son of Samuel Scott FUrber Sr. and Elsie Kimball Furber and graduated from York High School In 1953 he graduated from the Univer­sity of New Hampshire School of En~ering. .

From 1953 to 1955 be sel'led as an officer in the Army, statiooed in the United Stales and in England .

Aftenvard, he was employed by Shell Oil Co. for 36 years W1til bis retirement in 1991. At the time of bis retire­ment be was an operations manager in Houston.

Mr. Furber was a member of Sl Aspioquid Masonic Lodge in York, as well as the Maine Royal Arch, Kittery, the Sl Amand Commandel'y, West Kennebunk and the Kora Temple, Lewiston, an in Maine. ' ·

Surviving are his wife, Carol of Houston; one soo, Chris­topher of Dallas; ooe daughter, Julie of Houston; one sis­ter, Mrs. Chester (Patricia) Chase of Cape Neddick, Maine; and one brother, Carter Furber otYork, Maine.
