Interoperability issues between variety device vendors

Devices must be developed whenever the counter devices are changed.

Development period would be longer.

After HES setting up with self made protocol, new vendor hardly can join the existing

HES.

Aftermarket and consumer market can not be formed.

Replacements can not be found when the devices break down.

Also, the residents want to change the devices on their personal preferences.

Detached house owner want to set up DIY HES.

Protocol requirement

Be light for poor resources

Be simple and easy

Be inexpensive for implementation

Protocol overview

Launching HES standard forum(since 2005)

Goal : Development of communication protocols reflecting the real HES

Members : 30 device vendors

Achievements : 12 Voluntary standards

Standardization body : Telecommunications Technology Association(TTA)

Next stage : Korea Standards and International Standards

Current status

Implemented by 20 device vendors.

Development of conformance test tool and interoperability test specifica-

tion is in Progress.

National testing and certification system will be set up based on ISO

17025/Guide 65.

Protocol overview

This voluntary standards includes :

Minimum configurations of communications

Message sequence and timing

Error handling

Cabling and terminal register

Examples

3. Status request

4. Status response

5. Control request

6. Controlled status response

Response time : Min. 10ms, Max. 15ms

9

Conclusion

Advantages of this standard

Light and suitable for poor resource(ex. Microcontroller based on Tiny OS)

Simple and easy

Low development cost

This proposed standard is verified for 5 years by 20 vendors.

Once conformance testing and certification system set up, it would be imple-

mented widely.
