40-Year Anniversary
40 years ago, the Black Students Union,
Third World Liberation Front, and San
Francisco State students, faculty, and
staff engaged in the longest university
strike in U.S. history. Together, these
groups protested racial discrimination,
the Vietnam War, the draft, and an
"irrelevant" curriculum that neglected "irrelevant" curriculum that neglected
students of color, working class
students, women, and LGBT students.
Asian American Studies Programs
across the U.S. are a legacy of that
strike, and others like it that took place
at universities like Columbia and UC
Berkeley.
