OPEN HOUSE

40-Year Anniversary

40 years ago, the Black Students Union,

Third World Liberation Front, and San

Francisco State students, faculty, and

staff engaged in the longest university

strike in U.S. history. Together, these

groups protested racial discrimination,

the Vietnam War, the draft, and an

"irrelevant" curriculum that neglected "irrelevant" curriculum that neglected

students of color, working class

students, women, and LGBT students.

Asian American Studies Programs

across the U.S. are a legacy of that

strike, and others like it that took place

at universities like Columbia and UC

Berkeley.
