Top attractions of Accra
Accra is one of those unique cities that stay a perfect blend of ancient castles and the new
age storey. The 17th century castles speak history whereas the present skyscrapers speak of
its development in par with other attractive hotspots. There are many flight service
providers flying from all over the world to this vibrant African city. Also there are a lot in the
city that makes it doable as an interesting tourist location. So let us look into some of the
attractions Accra that justifies the said.
National Theatre:
This is a wonder that depicts the talents of locales; yes it is a place where they perform arts.
Funded by the Chinese Government, the National Theatre players, the National Dance
Company and the National Symphony Orchestra are the three companies managing the

Jamestown:
Jamestown is the ideal location for those enthusiasts willing to know about the history of
the city. The history of this fishing harbour dates back in the 17th century. Jamestown is
definitely one of the must visit places of Accra as it is a momentous treasure.
Makola Market:
If you are looking for a traditional African shopping experience, it is then the Makola Market
with no doubts. You can find superstores and malls of all kinds. Varieties of shopping items
ranging from every dayutilizable items like the fresh food items, cookeryprovisions till
clothes and medicinesyou can find everything that would require for a good shopping
experience.
Labadi beach:
This is one of the most famous beaches in Accra. You are permitted to enter the beach with
a minimal entry free whereas if you are residing in any of the hotels within the beach
premises you don’t have a fee for entrance. In addition to the sensuous cool breeze from
the beach, Labadi has much more to offer you. There is a set of musical performances like
the reggae, hip life, playback and cultural drumming here.
Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and Memorial park:
As the name suggests this is in memory of Dr. Kwane Nkrumah who was the first president
of Ghana and he is one among the most dynamic freedom fighters of Ghana. He played an
important role in Ghana’s independence. This memorial park is a tribute to its lifetime hero.

Independence Square:
In continuation to the Kwane Nkrumah Mausoleum and Memorial park, Independence
Square is one of the must visit places in Accra. This square was built to celebrate the
independence of Ghana. This is also known as the Black Star Square, it has a black star
embedded at the top. Also this square has an undying flame that was lit by the first
president Nkrumah. Visit the location that speaks of a country’s stepping into happiness.
W.E.B. Dubois Memorial centre:
This centre is right now a library with loads of chronological literature. This is also the
memorial centre of W.E.B Dubois who dedicated all his life to fight for equal rights for the
black people. He is a famous American author who came from US to Ghana for the cause.
The House No.22 in the centre is the place where W.E.B Dubois stayed.
Osu Castle:
Osu Castle is a mysterious location with history dated back in 17th century. During ancient
times the castle has been used for different purposes, it has even remained a place for
stocking up the slaves before they were transported to a different location. Regardless of all
its hullabaloos, Osu Castle can be visited by tourists but taking photographs has been
banned here.
Artists Alliance Gallery:
If you are that art loving fanatic you should definitely visit the Artists Alliance Gallery where
you can find unusual art works in all ranges. You can shop sculptures, paintings and fabrics
that are stunning to its best and all within your budgets. Do not forget to include the gallery
in your visiting list if you would like to carry some beautiful piece of work back home from
Ghana (Accra).
Kane Kwei Carpentry Workshop:
Though weird, you would rather find it interesting to visit this carpentry workshop. The
shocking fact is that this workshop belongs to famous coffin designer Kane Kwei who was
well-liked in designing coffins for people with carvings on it as per the zeal of the people or
their life story. This place is now owned by the grandson of KanKwei but it is interesting to
visit this place and know the peculiar interest Mr.KanKwei had in this. Isn’t that interesting
to learn about somebody who tried bringing in creativity and happiness even at the funerals
of others?
