The design of the Forbidden City, from its overall layout to the smallest detail, was thoroughly planned to imitate philosophical and religious principles the majesty of royal power.

In China Yellow color is used to reflect the power of emperor. Thus almost all roofs in the Forbidden City bear yellow glazed tiles.

The main halls of the Outer and Inner courts are arranged in groups of three – the shape of the Qian trigram which representing Heaven in Chinese Culture.
