If you’re going to have a team building in Sydney, make sure

that you and your team bundle up because the city has just

experienced its coldest June day in 21 years. According to reports, Sydney’s maximum temperature

for Monday reached just 11.7 degrees Celsius.

The “feels like” temperature was even colder. In fact, it stayed within

the single digit range throughout the day. But for those who hate the cold, you might be happy to know that the cold spell won’t last that long and the worst of it is probably over for now.

Brett Dutschke, senior meteorologist at Weatherzone,

said Sydney’s extremely cold weather was because of a cold

snap with a strong blustery front that arrived on Friday.

It was followed by a weaker front on Sunday that brought more snow to the Blue Mountains. As a result, temperatures over the last three

days have just stayed within the 10.4 degrees range.

According to Mr Dutschke, it is very unusual for Sydney to have

two significant cold fronts together. However, the cold snap

won’t stay that long because temperatures are expected to rise

in the next few days.

The Bureau of Meteorology said that temperatures should reach 18

degrees on Tuesday and might even notch similar above-average

reading each day.

But it looks like the city will have another cold weekend as another cold front is expected to arrive on

Friday. However, Mr Dutschke believes that while it is possible

that a low pressure system might develop off the cost of New South Wales over the weekend, it is very

likely that it will move away from the continent very quickly.

So if you’re planning to do some team building activities with the

members of your staff, it would be wise to do it in the next few days

when the sun is shining out or after the new cold snap is expected

to arrive.

For most Sydneysiders, this sudden dip in temperatures is a bit jarring, especially after experiencing a run

of record warmth over the last couple of weeks.

Bureau climatologist Acacia Pepler said the 22 consecutive days of at

least 18 degrees from June 2nd was the longest of such spell on

record.  The previous record was set in June 1965, when locals

experience such mild temperatures for 18 days in a row.

Despite most of the city shivering right now, this warm start to June is

an indication that this month is likely to end up among Sydney’s six mildest Junes on record. Based on

current forecasts, the month is setting up to be the second-

warmest behind June 1991, said Mr Dutschke.

But regardless of whether it’s cold or hot outside, always make sure to

keep your team members safe when doing team building

activities in Sydney.

First and foremost, always check the weather forecast first

before you schedule any outdoor activity with your staff.

Second, avoid doing any extreme activity that may put

everyone’s health and safety at risk, especially in this kind of

weather.

And finally, always have someone who knows first aid to accompany you on your Sydney Amazing Race to minimise the risk of someone having serious

injuries.
