The capital of the I region of Chile. Iquique is one of the country’s most visited cities. The attractions are a mild climate, commerce, the Atacama desert, natural and archaeological treasures, access to Peru and Bolivia and a great many recreational and sporting activities.
Cavancha is the beach best identified with the city, but Playa Brava, Playa Huayquique and Playa Blanca all share a smooth slope, great sand and a water temperature ranging between 16°C and 20°C, while the air is about 25 Cs average, ideal for sunbathing, swimming and water sports.
ZOFRI (Zona Franca de Iquique) is the duty free shopping mall with more than 400 shops selling everything designer goods, cosmetics, electronics, furnishings, local handicrafts and much more.
The Reserva Nacional Pampa del Tamarugal is a preserved and protected stand of native tamaraugo trees that were nearly wiped out in earlier centuries.
Humberstone is another reflection of the once-thriving Chilean saltpeter industry. It was first located there in 1872, when the “La Pampa” office was founded.
This catholic celebration is done in honor to Virgen del Carmen or “Carmelita”, each 15th of July. Every year is possible to see this celebration that features dancers who combine colorful costumes and typical music of the North. The celebration lasts five days, with more than 60,000 people who enjoy the holiday in front of La Tirana Church.
In Arturo Prat square, the tower clock, municipal theater , and the Spain center all date from the heyday of nitrate (salitre) mining which brought huge wealth to the city. Declared a National Monument, the historic area includes homes, the passenger wharf, the old Customs House and the railway station, built by the "King of Salitre", Englishman John Thomas North.
Paragliding and sandboarding are only two of the outdoor recreational opportunities in the dunes and skies of Iquique.
San Pedro de Atacama is a Chilean town and commune in El Loa Province, Antofagasta Region. It is located east of Antofagasta, some 106 km (60 mi) southeast of Calama and the Chuquicamata copper mine, overlooking the Licancabur volcano. It features a significant archeological museum, the R. P. Gustavo Le Paige Archaeological Museum, with a large collection of relics and artifacts from the region. Native ruins nearby now attract increasing numbers of tourists interested in learning about pre-Columbian cultures.
San Pedro church is a National Monument, built with adobe, a building material used in the colonial times. It is one of the oldest church in Chile.
Only 98 kilometers to the Northeast of San Pedro de Atacama there is a place that becomes magic at dawn: the Tatio Geysers.

During our visit to the city, we toured around the local beaches: a healthy way to make contact with the environment.
