How Can I Tell If a Moving Company is Trustworthy?

It’s time to move. Whether it’s a home or an office, or whether the move is made for a new jobor a change of scenery, the decision has been made to pick up and make off for a new location. This can be an invigorating and exciting time to say the least, but it should also be a time toslow down and exercise the foresight and thorough research that guarantees a trustworthymoving company. Here’s how.

Research the Company

Check with actual insurance regulators to discover a mover’s insurance status. In Arizona, consumers may check with regulators who work in the Arizona Consumer Affairs Division. Tosee if any legal action has been taken against an Arizona moving company, check with one ofthe two Arizona offices of the attorney general. There is one office in Tucson and one inPhoenix.

Check DBA names against LLC names. DBA stands for "doing business as," and it refers to thegeneral name a company goes by. If a moving company is registered as an LLC, or limitedliability company, it's possible that it could be doing business under multiple names, that is, itcould have several different DBAs.

Since each of these different entities, each known by different DBAs, represent the sameessential company, it is important to conduct research that can discover the real reputation ofevery moving company that the LLC is associated with. If an LLC has two DBAs, one of whichhas a terrible reputation, this is important information, since both DBAs undergo similarmanagement styles by the same leaders.

Learn about Their Reputation

In order to check on the reputation of a Tucson moving company, retrieve information beyondwhat is listed in the yellow pages. Consult with the Better Business Bureau to see how thecompany is rated, and be sure to check all of the standard rating websites available. Look fortestimonials or references on moving companies’ websites, too. A company that is proud of thework they do and has happy customers will have happy testimonials to prove it.

Word of mouth will not hurt either; conferring with friends and family and getting support throughtheir experiences will likely be helpful. Only remember to consider the source; this informationwill be anecdotal and not error-proof.

Consumer Responsibility

There will be many instances in which a savvy consumer will recognize that a business is simplynot trustworthy. Movers may attempt to provide an estimate over the phone or internet; this is ared flag. Any good moving company will set up an appointment to visit the home or office to lookover the work they would be doing.

Other red flags include the moving company arriving with a rented truck. It’s also a bad sign ifthe moving company asks for large cash advances or significant deposits.

Trust intuition. When calling the company, if a different business or person answers the phone, this should not inspire confidence. The same is true if the company being contacted has nophysical address or their website contains no guarantees of its insurance and licenses.

Some of these tips are more obvious than others, but they can all help to ensure a safe andefficient moving process. To find out more or for a free moving estimate, visitMyTucsonMovers.com.
