The island of Zakynthos, also called Zante (its Italian name),
is the third largest island in the Ionian Sea, located off the west
coast of Greece. The island is named after Zacynthos, son of
legendary Arcadian chief Dardanos.Most of the beaches and towns are
on the south and east coasts, as the west and north coasts are
extremely mountainous often with cliffs dropping many hundreds of
feet straight into the sea.
Zakynthos este cea mai sudic insul i a treia ca mrime dintre
Insulele Ionice - n largul coastei de sud a Greciei, situat la o
scurt distan de vrful nord-vestic al peninsulei Peloponez. Insula
Zakynthos este cunoscut i ca Zante sau Floarea Levantului, iar
turitii greci veneau n Zante cu mult nainte ca aceast destinaie s
fie apreciat de turitii internaionali.

The Shipwreck is the most famous of Zante (Zakynthos) areas and
one of the most famous photographs of Greece. It is situated at the
eastern part of Zakynthos (Zante) island. The beach took its name
from the ship that, in 1980, transported illegally cigarettes and
washed up on the beach that has, by the years, grown up around it.
The ruins of the ship are on the middle of a beautiful white sandy
beach with crystal waters. Shipwreck is surrounded by vertical rock
cliffs and that makes an impressive picture.
Navagio Beach, una dintre cele mai spectaculoase plaje din lume,
este situat n nord-vestul insulei Zakynthos. Cunoscut i sub
denumirea de Shipwreck Beach (Plaja Naufragiailor) sau Smugglers
Cove (Golful Pirailor), Navagio i-a dobndit faima dupa ce aici a
naufragiat un vas al contrabanditilor.
Navagio Beach (Greek: ), or the Shipwreck, is an exposed cove,
often referred to as 'Smugglers Cove', on the coast of Zakynthos,
in the Ionian Islands of Greece and is the location of the wreck of
the alleged smuggler ship Panagiotis.
Pn la nceputul anilor 80 era cunoscut ca Agios Georgios. n acel
an, un vas ce fcea contraband cu igri i butur a fost urmrit de
poliie i somat s se predea. Prins ntr-o puternic furtun pe mare,
vasul a euat n golfule, iar epava lui a rmas captiv pe micua plaj.
Btut de vnturi i pe jumtate ngropat n nisip, nava a devenit cu
timpul o atracie turistic.
The Panagiotis is a picturesque shipwreck lying in the white
sands of an exposed cove on the coast of Zakynthos (Zante), which
is among the southern-most of the Ionian Islands of Greece. (20
euros for an 8 hours boat trip. Stopped 3 times for swimming)
Plaja din Navagio este accesibil doar de pe mare, fie cu
ambarcaiuni nchiriate, fie cu vase care fac croaziere zilnice i au
opriri de 1-2 ore n golf. Costul unei astfel de croaziere este n
jur de 20 de euro.
This superb beach is located in the eastern part of the island,
close to the Anafotiria village.It was initially called Agios
Georgios but owes its new name to the shipwreck of a boat that
transported illegal cigarettes, in 1980. The deep sea left the
remains of the ship on this beach.
Plaja din Navagio este incredibil, cu foarte puin nisip fin i
mai mult alctuit din pietricele, de mrimea unui bob de mazre, de
culoare alb.
Very rugged coastline here and so dramatic. The sea has the most
amazing color.
With the years passing, the sand completely surrounded the ship
which looks now as if it was emerging of it. The vestiges of the
ship can be seen in the middle of the large white sandy beach which
has amazing turquoise and crystalline waters.
Apa este foarte srat i destul de adnc chiar de la mal. n zilele
cu mare agitat, golfuleul este inaccesibil.
Huge vertical cliffs of white rocks are surrounding the sand
creating a unique and enchanting image. To reach this paradise, one
has to take a little boat from the small port of Porto Vromi. Those
taxi-boats are leaving every hour and the trip is about 30
minutes.
Pentru a surprinde ns instantanee de neuitat, trebuie s ajungi
deasupra golfului, undeva la 300 de metri, ntr-un loc special
amenajat pentru turiti.
Navagio ("Shipwreck"), the spot where she lies, is a valued
tourist attraction on the north-western side of the island, with
thousands of visitors each year.

Panagiotis was built in Scotland in 1937 as Saint Bedan and
wrecked in 1980, probably while carrying contraband cigarettes and
being chased by the Greek Navy. Encountering stormy weather, the
ship ran aground in a shallow cove on the west coast of Zakynthos,
where the crew abandoned her to evade the pursuing Navy.To this
day, the wreck remains at the site which is now called "Navagio",
Greek for "shipwreck.
O alt atracie a plajei, pe lng imaginea de vis oferit de natur,
este epava vasului Panagiotis, euat n anul 1980. Nimeni nu tie
exact cum a ajuns aceast nav pe plaj, dei legendele nu au ntrziat s
apar.
Locals raided the cargo of cigarettes and whisky, and for the
following four years no 'official' tobacco products were sold on
the island
Construit n Scoia n anul 1937, nava i-a schimbat numele de mai
multe ori de-a lungul timpului, sfrind prin a deveni Panagiotis,
nava celebr a contrabanditilor de igri i a mafioilor
italieni.Localnicii au curit nava de igri i wisky i timp de patru
ani nu s-a vndut tutun oficial pe insul
