Some of the things we learned

• People don’t want to pay a fee for a job search site when many others are free

• People compare us to Monster.com (a job search site) even though we think of ourselves as a job service site for internationals looking to live and work abroad

• The quicker you ask and get feedback the quicker you can learn and iterate your idea– So ask early and ask often

• How you view and understand the value of your idea may not be the same as how others see it

Evolution of our Idea• Idea 1.0 – Simplify the process for people looking to work abroad• Idea 2.0 – Because we cannot control immigration and legal constraints

maybe we can simplify by improving site navigation, design, and enhanced visuals

• Idea 3.0 – Include information regarding local condition such as cost of living, weather, language, etc.

• Idea 4.0 – Should we include all jobs or only jobs that are willing to hire foreigners?– The initial idea was designed for individuals looking to live and work abroad so

local jobs and jobs not interested in hiring foreigners would not be included in our job portal

• Idea 5.0 – Due to the complexity of working abroad, immigration constraints and lack of huge interest working abroad maybe we should pivot and change it to a job portal for those looking to work for startups– Our differentiation would be a job catalog for those interested in working for an

entrepreneur, startup, or business still in its infancy

Lesson for future interviewers

• For surveys keep it short and simple – The easier and fewer the questions the more likely

people will participate and fully complete– Provide a quick intro about your work (context) so

people have a better idea what this is about• How to find people to interview?– If you do it on the street consider where you think

your target market shops, hangs out, or goes– If you can’t find your target market, ask those

closest to you; friends, family, fellow classmates
