WHAT IT ISIt is the contamination and degradation of Earth’s surface, caused by human activities and their misuse of land resources. Land pollution occurs when waste is not disposed properly.

CAUSES•Urban and Rural wastes•Exploitation of minerals•Improper use of soil by inadequate agricultural practices•Increase in urbanization•Domestic waste•Industrial (ex: mining waste)

EFFECTSExterminates wild lifeAcid rain kills plants and treesVegetation is destroyedDisrupts the balance of nature

SOLUTIONSAdequate garbage disposalRecycling of garbageAvoid over packaged productsUsing less pesticides and herbicidesEncourage organic farmingEfficient use of resources

WHAT IS IT? Water pollution is the contamination of

Earth’s waters caused by sewage, sludge, garbage, and toxic pollutants dumped into the water .

CAUSES Sewage, sludge, garbage, and even toxic

pollutants are all dumped into the water and governments do not really care.

No efforts are made to disinfect or to remove harmful pollutants.

Chemicals dumped by industries and governments.

Oil has been dumped into water between 1 and 10 billion tons of oil every year.

Water Pollution

Page 5: Wipe it off!

SOLUTIONS Clean Water Act Non-governmental projects Dispose you trash in a proper

manner Do no throw products into your

toilet or sink Do not litter into streams, lakes,

rivers, or seas Turning tap off when you do not

need the water running.

EFFECTS Kills animal life Pollution disrupts the natural food

chain as well Human can get diseases such as

hepatitis by eating seafood that has been poisoned.

WHAT IS IT?• Is the exposure of Carbon Monoxide in the air.

• Air Pollution includes smog, acid rain, the greenhouse effect, and “holes” in the ozone layer.

• We usually breath the ocean. But because of its contamination and the smoke that surrounds us polluted the fresh air we used to breathe long time ago.

Air Pollution

CAUSES•We are the ones who cause it. •(OUTDOOR)•Black Carbon- release of fuels, and smoke of industries, the smoke of the chimneys, automobiles, burning of wood, burning of trash, cooking, and more.•Noxious Gases- form acid rain and smog. These are caused by chemicals in water that then are being evaporated.•Smog is obtained from the diesel from the cars, and the smoke from the industrial buildings and factories.•(INDOOR)•25%-62% is greater than outdoors percentages of pollution. •In indoors what causes pollution is the cooking, paints, furniture, smoking, vapors, drying, for example drying your hair. These are things that normally are being used.

EFFECTS•Greenhouse effect- This is the building up of carbon dioxide in the air which causes the ozone layer to break and to get thinner because of all the chemicals that are surrounding it.

•Ozone depletion- the stratosphere layer is being damaged. This causes to make holes and let the radiation go through it penetrating the Earth.

SOLUTIONInstead of driving just a few blocks, walk or use your bicycle.

• Stop smoking. First of all it damages you and it can harm your lungs, and second of all it damages the people around you.

WHAT IS IT? Noise pollution is unpleasant human, animal or

machine-created sounds that disrupt the normal functioning of human or animal life. Noise is a sound without a rhythm and only annoys us.

CAUSES The source of most outdoor noise in the world is

transportation, including motor noise, and airplane noise.

Other sources of indoor and outdoor noise pollution are car alarms, emergency sirens, factories, construction work, barking dogs, house appliances, power tools, audio entertainment systems, and noisy people.

Noise Pollution

Page 9: Wipe it off!

EFFECTS Noise causes health and/or behavioral effects. Noise pollution

can cause annoyance, aggression, hypertension, lots of stress, tinnitus, hearing loss, sleep problems, and other harmful effects. Furthermore, stress and hypertension are some of the main causes to lots of health problems, whereas tinnitus can lead to forgetfulness, severe depression and sometimes, panic attacks.

Too much noise could help cardiovascular diseases to develop. Exposure to somewhat high levels of noise during several hours a day causes an increase in stress, which rises your blood pressure.

SOLUTIONS Try not to make too much noise when out in

the street. If possible, use a less noisy car. Switch your electrical appliances to ones that are more quiet. Don’t put your stereo on too loud.

Page 10: Wipe it off!

WHAT IS IT? Is a term given for unattractive man made or any other thing that people

don’t feel comfortable looking at. This type of pollution is said to be aesthetic, referring to the impact it has

on us by not letting us enjoy the view. Visual pollution limits the ability to view distant objects. The Term Visual

pollution is used meaning that things man made cover the good visibility of natural objects.

CAUSES Can be cause by man, and as well by natural causes. But it is mostly

caused by man. Bill boards announcing stuff, public advertisements everywhere in the city,

stop lights, telephone and utility posts, graffiti, litter, etc.

NATURAL CAUSES Weeds, Algae ,Grass growing where it shouldn’t

EFFECTS Tourists might not find this very attractive

Visual Pollution

Page 11: Wipe it off!

Reducing billboards Stop graffiti No littering Cleaning up, starting

with places we visit.Education. Showing

kids to place trash in the right spot, showing them that graffiti is bat etc…

Solutions

Page 12: Wipe it off!

WHAT IS IT? Is also known as photo pollution, or luminous pollution. It is the excessive artificial light. Light pollution destroys the views of natural stuff. Light energy refers to energy consumption More light than what we actually need.

CAUSES People using excessive lights Lights on all night Billboard with neon lights

Light Pollution

Page 13: Wipe it off!

EFFECTS Billions of dollars are

wasted every year in the U.S

Wasted energy because of too much use

Light pollution consumes lots of valuable natural resources

SOLUTIONS We can help by putting

lights showing to the ground instead of to the air.

By having lights on only when needed

Try to reduce the wattage

Page 14: Wipe it off!

We can save the worldThe Earth suffers..

The 25% of animals in the earth no longer exist

As we pollute the water, Fish are dying. The earth is dying..

We are dying You and I are murderers

Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but Footprints

We will not understand the worth of water ‘till the water is dry

The earth is dying..

STOP POLLUTING
