Challenges Faced

• Traditionally SAUs, are involved in research of farmer oriented technology

• Mandate is to Disseminate the technologies to farmers through Extension Officers by conducting farmers’ day, on-farm trials, mass media etc., as public service.

• Agri-Business incubation is a New Concept for SAU’s.

Page 35: TNAU AGRI BUSINESS INITIATIVE - ICAR CII MEETING 23 MAY 2011

Challenges : Sourcing of Technology

• Most of the research activities are focused on farmer oriented crop management technologies.

• Orientation is required to generate market based technologies, suitable for commercialization.

• Scientists are Reluctant to share the technologies for private commercialization.

• No Uniform policy on incentives to scientists.

Page 36: TNAU AGRI BUSINESS INITIATIVE - ICAR CII MEETING 23 MAY 2011

Challenges : Commercialization of Technology

Agricultural Scientists lack training in technology commercialization skills.

Lack of knowledge about assessment of market value of a technology and fixing of price for a technology.

Problems in verifying revenue generation from for technology commercialisation .

Need for more Public-Private Partnership initiatives to develop and commercialize new technologies
