Technological unemployment is the loss of jobs caused by technological change. That change typically includes the introduction of labour saving machines or more efficient procedures.

SRI LANKAIn Agriculture

Mechanization was introduced to the agricultural community in order to accelerate the rate of cultivation and harvest activities

Now they have lost these agricultural employment opportunities in their own areas due to the intensive use of machineries

In fishery industryTraditional fishers lost their jobs due to the

introduction of new technology to fishery industry

Ex: Fiberglass and plywood canoes replacing dug-outs, radios and electronics ,fish smoking and salting technology

In Industrial sectorFrom the very beginning of industrial

revolution, machines & inanimate forms of energy were used to boost production & reduce the amount of labor required to make a product.

In the mining & quarrying industry labor force lost their employment due to technological improvements of, Hoisting plant and systems Diamond drilling Raising, techniques

In industrial Cont.Construction, Electricity, gas supply, Water

supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities had to faced technological unemployment.

In Service SectorThe story of robotics is replacing workers in manufacturing is nothing new but now it seems that robots are moving into the once unthinkable sector of service jobs

The usage of technology has reduced the job opportunities of banking sector because of the rapid progress of ,Online bankingMobile bankingAutomated teller systemsSmart cards

In service sector Cont. Postmen & typists have to be unemployed

due to the impact of technological innovations.

Ex: E-mail ,Online Chatting, Computer based accounting systems

The increase in self check-out lanes in supermarkets, RFID technologies in retail stores have destroyed employment in retail markets.

A machine that mass produces shoes may cause a cobbler to lose his business

CONCLUSION

• Technological unemployment is basically created by introduction of machinery. But, it is a temporary phenomenon• In the long run, investments would create

additional job opportunities so that the unemployed workers will be absorbed in a more remunerative way.• In developed countries, technological

unemployment possesses no serious problem. But in Sri Lanka it will badly affect to the process of Development.
