[9 Key frame] In What Ways Does Your Media Product Use, Or Develop Challenge Forms And conventions Of Real Media Products

Page 2: Question 3

Diary EstablishmentThe Dairy does physically illustrate the genre convention. Since it’s an action/ thriller the pages suggest that he will plan ahead for future investigations or it connotes that days have past since evidence has been brought in. It is kept abstract so this challenges the Genre convention in a way.

The TextThe Text has a certain glow to it as well as a serious block-like form. Both Genre’s are merged into the text. We have the black block letters for the Action part and the glow subtly connotes thriller or an disturbing quality; ultimately challenging text conventions

Text positionFirst off it is mostly common for film to put this particular kind of credit in the center of the screen but I have partially challenged text convention because I have put it at the bottom an d center. This is because It goes well with this particular scene and doesn’t intervene with any crucial elements of the scene.

Page 3: Question 3

Specific background detailBy adding fingerprints and a criminal photo in the background and then using the pink thread to under rule it I have effectively use a Genre convention. It will tell the audience that it has something to do with investigation and it’s my explicit though it has subtle implicit messages.

Pink thread Meaning? This uses two conventions. By effectively allowing the title to hover above it, it is giving the titles a sense of order and giving it a place to sensibly fit into the text. By Having it cut through the fingerprints it suggests that this evidence has partially been disproven. Also to add the camera has been very careful to get it at that angle.

The retro genre conventionBy giving the image of fingerprints in the background a black and white picture clearly suggests that this type of evidence is old. Considering his wife recently went missing it creates enigma codes as to what this has to do with the case if you know the storyline. In general it creates enigma codes and re-enforces genre conventions.

Exploiting The genre for what it isThe dazzle effect in this shot suggest that this woman has significant purpose in this movie before it even gets to the name. The reddish color suggests something bad has happened to her or she actually is the problem. In addition, we can see shady guys in the background which create further enigma codes on weather she was working with them. This clearly has some form of action involved, so therefor this develops the genre convention.

“Cutting” Into facts The thread cuts into the picture as if it were torn apart. This creates enigma codes to challenges the genre convention to a certain extent by creating those enigma codes in the first place. IT may suggest that she is in hiding and she no longer goes by that identity.

Mise-En sceneThe effect also enhanced the lighting of the Mise-en scene aspect. As you can see the image of her is lite up where as the others aren't which further suggests she’s a main star before the name credits come up.

Text PositioningThe alignment on the screen is just right and exploits the text conventions and still maintains the glow effect. As it is placed right next to the picture it is giving us a clear indication that “Curtis Jackson” Is the person on the right. Though it is simple it is still a Genre convention.

Meaning and enigma codesThe fact that here we have two mug shots suggest that he is a key element in the story, thus giving more enigma codes as to what his crime was and how it is linked to the film. The technical conventions has made it so that he is in the bottom left, making room for the text.

Actor relationSince 50 cent is in quite a lot of action films, this will draw in viewers and convince them it’s a movie they want to watch. It’s a potential genre convention.

Page 6: Question 3

Mug shot genre conventionThe typical first hand mug shot connotes danger and criminal activity. The height also connotes that all of these people mainly links to the main character, they may cross paths soon. A clear action genre convention.

ProfessionalThe black and white authentic look to a mug shot is also maintained, and although no titles have been used we get the feeling he’s in the film. This goes along and develops the genre conventions

Clever text positioningThe “Music By” has been played by a raving picture. Now this sets off both symbolic codes and enigma codes. It also has “Story By” Next to the rave which also sets off subtle enigma by challenging yet develops it by giving off enigma codes.

The String/Thread consistenceThe thread is a continuous theme in this sequence and the fact that its inking to everything in this shot means there is a sequence. This in itself is a development of the genre conventions and the technical conventions by making sure the raving picture is the main attraction of the shot forces the viewer to look at it then they acknowledge the credits.

Throughout every shot, the magnification in this one

The Map in the background connotes that there are links all over LA. The thread being all over the place with the coloured pins also suggest that the main character is hard at work and determined. This is also a convention code and it further develops and and challenges it.

The enigma coded lightThe shadow of the thread suggests that something bad has happened along those lines and the main characters journey from one point to a next. This challenges the genre conventions as this shot is partially abstract.

Embedding creditsThe way the title have been embedded is clever because it’s right under a big picture and it suggests that most of the story came from “Omari Marshalls” Inspiration. Though there is no glow the text has creatively been imbedded which may connote that most of the story’s evidence and basis is off of evidence and articles.

Technical side of thingsThe lighting in this shot is just right so the picture isn’t overpowered with light, and the way its angled suggests that things about these people isn’t right. We don’t know at this point what happened to them or who they are. (if you haven't read the storyline.

Page 10: Question 3

The subtle yet very obvious symbolic codeThe plain black background connotes despair, devastation and hard times. There is a reason why this isn’t overplayed on footage. That symbolic code of the color black needed to be illustrated so the code was more explicit.

See the light! The glow on the text at this part in the sequence really stops the text from blending in with the background. Connoting that there was some shred of hope for the storyline and the character. The glow in this shot gives off a completely different code although not completely. The fact that it’s glowing means that the genre has not changed from thriller.
