Become an ICT professional at CTU and start your exciting career in ICT; a fast moving dynamic environment.

Since its inception in 1987, CTU has prepared a great number of learners for a wide spectrum of employment opportunities in the ICT sector. The CTU Career Campus offers a variety of programmes with National Qualifications and International Certifications which develop skills and prepares the graduates for a future filled with exciting opportunities at its 13 campuses countrywide.

CTU Training Solutions is fully accredited by the MICT SETA. In line with industry requirements, CTU Training Solutions (PTY) Ltd is fully accredited by the MICT SETA and provisionally registered with the Department of Education as a Private Further Education and Training College, in terms of section 31 (3) of the Further Education and Training Colleges Act, 2006 (Act No. 16 of 2006) and Regulation 15(4)(b) of the Regulations for the Registration of Further Education and Training Institutions.

...more about the IT industry The IT services market in South Africa has seen a healthy uptake, growing at about 8% year on year in 2010 to contribute more than a third of the total IT spending in the country. Market research and advisory company IDC expects the IT services market to exceed $5-billion (R40-billion) in 2012. “The growth in IT services’ spending was driven by a recovering economy, increased business confidence, expanding bandwidth availability, and various infrastructure investments made in the country in 2010.”

In a recent research report, IDC cited that IT outsourcing constituted around 40% of the South African IT services market, which represents the largest market share of all IT services foundation markets, followed by systems integration and installation and support services. According to IDC, services such as network and desktop outsourcing and infrastructure hosting saw an increased uptake in 2010, fuelled by the incremental supply of data centre space and increased customer awareness of the managed services model.

IDC forecasts the total South African IT services market to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 8,7% to exceed $17-billion (about R136-billion) in 2015. Looking ahead, IDC expects a continued spending focus among end-user organizations on areas and solutions that help reduce operating expenses while increasing efficiency. As a result of continued price pressures and the need to improve client service, vendors are advised to pursue alternative service delivery models, such as cloud services.

I’ve always loved computers but never really knew what exact field I wanted to go into or what career line to follow. When a family friend told me about CTU, I thought it wise to investigate and I found my ideal institute! In my time with CTU I’ve learned so much more than I thought I would! I have thoroughly enjoyed studying Programming, which I can honestly recommend as an excellent course. During my 2nd year I was looking for a job and was very excited when CTU introduced a Recruits Division.

They came and did a presentation to the students at the campus, explaining and teaching us about the preparation of CVs, what to expect in interviews and how to conduct one’s self. I was amazed that in no time I got a call from Claire Rayneard, from CTU Recruits, and I started attending interviews. All though my first interview did not go according to plan, a second opportunity came along! This time round I was successful and have started with an excellent company as a Junior Programmer. My responsibilities will vary and I know my growth will be tremendous. If it was not for CTU recruits I do not think this journey would have been as simple and effortless as it was. Thanks to CTU Recruits for helping me get this position!

success stories

After matriculating in 2006, I moved to Bloemfontein to study at CTU Training Solutions. I first heard about CTU at my school, when the Career Consultant told us about the campus and the benefits of a practical approach to the field you were interested in. I enjoyed my time at CTU very much; the facilitators were very friendly and well qualified in their fields. I made new friends and gained a lot of experience.

I finished two courses during my two years at CTU – Graphic and Web Development in 2007 and Computer Aided Draughting in 2008. I have been working as SA Stud Book’s Web Master since August 2009, where I manage and develop websites for several of South Africa’s top animal Breeders and Breeders Societies. I enjoy every moment of it!

In 2010 I started a Draughting course at CTU. The course was great fun and I’ve learned many things in that one year. Everyone at CTU was always friendly and always made sure you understood everything to the full extent - nothing was ever left out. I also made some great friends that always made the day better than what it already was! We had some great times at CTU.

The company I work for specialize in structural, mechanical, piping and civil engineering and I’ve started in the mechanical side of Draughting. In the next 2 years or so I want to move to civil and then structural engineering, depending on how things work out. I’m having great fun at the company. They are very good to me and I hope to go further with all my studies soon!

From the very beginning , Ronald has expressed pure passion and sheer determination in his chosen course. While studying, he participated in all CTU Auckland Park’s extracurricular activities and was often the driving force in motivating his peers to do the same.

In 2009, as a result of his positive attitude and enthusiasm he was selected as a SRC member.Academically he has remained one of the top students in his class throughout his course, having 100% attendance rate for both 2009 and 2010.

Despite the fact that Ronald has not enjoyed all the privileges that many of us have, he has exceeded his circumstances. He is currently working at CTU Head Office as a Web Administrator.

what is a qr code? A QR code (short for Quick Response) is a specific matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code), readable by dedicated QR barcode readers and camera phones. RAG was another great social event which forced the students to work extremely hard, all in the

name of charity. They worked long hours building a float and then had great fun collecting money by

means of “blikskud”.

12 days and 9 nights - LA, San FranCISCO, Carmel, Seattle… What a fantastic opportunity presented to the CTU Students. We departed on the 28th of September and arrived in Atlanta and wasted no time with our next flight to Los Angeles. A tour in Los Angeles was fantastic and HOT, with the

highlights being Venice beach and Blur animation studios, Disneyland and Universal studios and

most certainly the Bugatti on Rodeo drive.

Did we mention that we had an opportunity to purchase items from the Microsoft store at

discounted rates? Thank you Microsoft! We ended the tour with a final farewell dinner in Seattle, departing 8 October, day 11 and arriving

on Day 12 at OR international at 17:00. We enjoyed this experience tremendously and will most

definitely organise another tour for 2012.

Wednesday 8 October - we arrived in a rainy Seattle. During our stay in Seattle we visited the Space Needle, Music Project and Science Fiction

Museum, Intel, Boeing and Microsoft. At Microsoft we were welcomed by staff who presented

Microsoft solutions and technologies to the CTU Students. Throughout the Seattle offices, you’ll find just about every profession, business, and

technology Microsoft has to offer, including cutting-edge computer science research, product

development, and other core operations.

Blur animation studios located in Venice, California, has been creating award-winning visual effects,

animation and design, applying its creative skills across various mediums. They produce 3D character animation, motion design and visual

effects for feature films and television, game cinematics & trailers, large format films, location-

based entertainment, commercials and integrated media.

CTU takes students on an

ICT tour

From LA via Carmel to San FranCISCO by bus - it was a nice change from travelling by plane. The

highlights in San FranCISCO were most definitely CISCO and Alcatraz prison (no, we did not leave

any students behind!). At CISCO we had the privilege of experiencing CISCO technologies

like TelePresence (videoconferencing). The friendly CISCO staff went the extra mile with demonstrations of new technologies to our

students.

The big drive this year was their continuous support for the WetNose charity. WetNose is known as the no-kill shelter that looks after

rescued dogs, cats, horses and other farm animals that have been neglected, abused and confiscated. Rehabilitated animals are up for adoption as soon as they recover. R800 was raised by the students on Charity Fridays where they donated dog and

cat food and blankets for the cold winter months that followed.

At the beginning of last year they chose to support the Potato Foundation, which is responsible for

underprivileged children and providing what they need (i.e. food, sports equipment, and shelter for the homeless children). Students from the

Pretoria Campus decided to hold a Barefoot Day to experience first-hand what it felt like not having shoes. Facilitators and staff alike donated enough shoes to fill two large boxes for which the staff of

the Potato Foundation was most grateful.

18 19

At each of our 10 career campuses, all our students under the determined eye of the SRC,

are encouraged to dedicate their time and effort to serve their community in one way or another. Pretoria Campus stood out amongst all the other campuses by dedicating a huge amount of time and effort to support those in their community who are less fortunate than they are. The SRC

organised a whole variety of activities to ultimately raise money and give their time to the helpless

and the underprivileged.

Each Friday students took turns to drive out to the shelter and assisted in walking over 200 dogs,

to the great delight of the shelter’s staff, who had limited resources. The students had very

emotional experiences but admitted that it made them feel very proud and they are still involved in

contributing of their time to this noble cause.
