Data Collection Technique Why I did this

1. Traffic Count To compare traffic flows at different times of the day and week and in different zones of Harrow.

2. Land Use Survey To find out the main land uses in Harrow and whether they match those on the Burgess model

3. Photos To show the main features of housing types in different zones of Harrow

4. Questionnaire To find out what people consider important when buying a house & if these features affect house prices

Data Collection Technique

How I did this

1. Traffic Count I stood at each site (see map, p4) and counted the number of vehicles which passed me in both directions for 5 minutes. I repeated the count to get an average.

2. Land Use Survey I used a map of Harrow (see p.4) to produce an overlay which I coloured to show the main land uses at the sites I visited for the other collection techniques.

3. Questionnaire I asked 20 people who I chose at random the questions I had produced on my questionnaire.

Data Collection Technique

Why I chose to do it like this

1. Traffic Count The sites I chose to do my count represent, in my view, the main zones in Harrow which fit the Burgess model. This allows me to make comparisons. I chose 5 minutes as the optimum time to collect enough data. I repeated the results because..

2. Land Use Survey I used a map as the basis for my survey because it is more accurate than if I had recorded land use myself. It also took less time as the main roads, etc were already mapped.

3. Questionnaire

Problems/ Limitations

1. Traffic Count It was difficult to record all vehicles passing, especially during the rush hour so my results may be inaccurate. Also, I only selected a few zones in Harrow. External factors may affect my results.

2. Land Use Survey I may have missed smaller land uses on the map as they were not shown. I had to check certain land uses myself as some were not evident on the map.
