2. WHAT IS A VIDEO GAME DEVELOPER? A Video Game Developer is anyone who makes Video Games for a living. Video Game Developers are intelligent individuals who work well with others, have a vast knowledge about game design, and have a passion for making video games. Video Game Developers have many talents including programming, 3D modeling, animation, writing, sound design, special effects and level design. 3. WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE A VIDEO GAME DEVELOPER? An advanced understanding of programming languages, computer graphics and 3D modeling software, and hardware essentials. A creative and outgoing individual that possesses the skills to relay thoughts and ideas to their team. A Video Game Developer must be diligent, hardworking, and patient. A vast knowledge of all different types of video games, movies, music, and pop culture. 4. VIDEO GAME DEVELOPER: TRAINING AND DEGREE REQUIREMENTS A Video Game Developer is not required to have a formal education. Most Video Game Developers have a Bachelors Degree in Video Game Design and Computer Science. Experience is the main requirement. Having experience before college is the easiest way to become a successful Video Game Developer. 5. VIDEO GAME DEVELOPER: AVERAGE SALARY A Video Game Developers starting salary can be $45,000 a year for entry level design positions. When experience is gained, a Video Game Developer can make well over $100,000 if put into a lead position or department head position. Video Game Developer salaries vary studio to studio. 6. VIDEO GAME DEVELOPER: WORKING CONDITIONS Most Video Game Developers work 40 hours a week. Works in an office or studio space. Some Developers can even work in their home. Can be stressful conditions especially before a game ships, this is when Video Game Developers work over time to fully polish their project. 7. WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE WORLD OF VIDEO GAMES? Marianne Krawczyk and Whitney Wade, who worked extensively on the God of War franchise, will teach a course for UCLA's Professional Programs series in September. Is a 10-week, graduate-level and non-degree course in Video Game Design and Development.
