INSIDEAnyone for cocktails? Certify yourself! ‘Not to miss’ events

Reasons you are going to Dreamforce Do you want to go to Dreamforce? – “Oh yeah!”

Content, learn, more content, even more learning!

Admins have a lot to share and a lot to learn. Dreamforce allows you to take advantage of the experts on hand, learn new features, give back to the community. If you are presenting, here is a big Admin high five to you – YOU’RE AWESOME!

Meeting your peers

Jump on the opportunity to meet up with the experts and peers that you spend so much time communicating with throughout the year on social media and in the community – in REAL LIFE. Ain’t that right Steve Mo? – “I love to hear and see how other great Admins are using the platform.” I say. That’s an invite if ever I heard one! Just remember to bring him an IPA.

New Technology

Immerse yourself in the biggest technology event of the year. Feel overwhelmed in the keynotes with Marc Benioff and the plethora of inspirational speakers, go crazy with just about every AppExchange vendor (OVER 400 Cloud Computing Companies, yikes) and lose yourself in cool new technology.

“Feel inspired, learn and play with all the new technology”

AMBER BOAZ, MVP

“The place to be if you are serious about Salesforce”

CHRIS EDWARDS, MVP

Unofficial guide to Dreamforce 2015

Whether this be your 1st or your 7th time (lucky you) at Dreamforce, all 135,000+ attendees have good reasons for attending the most anticipated Salesforce event of the year.

And if you are sat on the plane heading to San Fran reading this and you need to be reminded of why you are attending Dreamforce then maybe this will help.

“Geek out, have fun, take selfies”CHERYL FELDMAN, MVP

Is this the Salesforce event of the year? “Is there any other event? – MIKE GERHOLDT

“A chance to live in the land of Salesforce. Guys, the view from the inside is AMAZING!”

RYAN HEADLEY, MVP

Who would question whether

Dreamforce is the SF event of the year?!

Well me (even if it is rhetorical). But for those who need reminding

why this event is so special then

read on …

#1 It’s SO cool!

Dreamforce is HUGE – It really is. Last year alone saw over 135k registered attendees, from 91 different countries, spread across 18 venues, attending 1,450 sessions, listening to 20 different live concert performances whilst drinking 5k gallons of coffee to keep ‘em going. Phew. I think I’m going to need one of those coffees!

#2 It’s bloomin’ marvellous!

Lots to learn with over 1,500 sessions (including 142 Admin Sessions), 188 hours of Salesforce Training and one hell of a line up of keynote speakers, it will be tough for anyone not to feel inspired by the end of Dreamforce.

#3 It’s one big celebration!

ADMIN DAY, ADMIN DAY, ADMIN DAY. Yes, an entire day to celebrate just how AWESOME we admins actually are. See you on the 17th September for treats, contests and surprises!“It’s a SF sensory experience

… the tastes, the smells, sights, sounds. They will last a lifetime!”

JENNIFER WOBSER, MVPPSSST!

Word in the woods is that the Admin Zone is taking a new path this year …

Expect something Different Folks! #AdminLodge

Getting Your Certification Game On!

03

Wouldn’t it be AMAZING if you could bring something back to show for all the knowledge that you have learnt at Dreamforce? Say in the form of a swanky certificate?

Believe it or not, the event provides the perfect opportunity for you to improve your skill set by getting trained and then becoming certified with half price classes, in half the time, at #DF15.

Not sure if you want to take on the added pressure by taking exams at Dreamforce?

Well hopefully some advice from the Dreamforce veterans can help make your mind up.

Steve Mo - Success Community legend and Amber Boaz, MVP, both agree that price wise it

just makes sense!

Steve – “DO IT!!! Take advantage of the

training sessions and the reduced pricing.”

Geraldine Gray, MVP GirlyGeeks founder –

“Just do it! Once you have your cert no one

will take it away.”

Geraldine, I don’t think I could have said it better myself.

Go for it! Take advantage of gaining the relevant knowledge

from your peers and experts, do the HOTs, workshops and mini-hacks.

But most of all don’t let the fear of failing stop you – you can

always try again.

THE PRICE IS RIGHT IT’S YOURS FOREVER TAKE ADVANTAGE

“Watch out for the most photographed (probably) guy at Dreamforce, SaaSy – advice from the wonderful Simon Lawrence, MVP “Don’t get distracted by SaaSy, despite how cuddly he looks”

Breakfast Lunch Dinner

04

With all the walking (or running) from session to session, talking to all your community peers, playing with all the cool gadgets in the expos and rocking out at the Gala, you are certainly going to want something other than canapés, coffee, fruit etc to eat to keep you going from morning to night. The beauty of Dreamforce? It’s got to be the location, San Francisco, and the abundance of eating places.

As recommended by the veterans of Dreamforce, behold your Admin haunts for the week …

Ryan Headley, MVP, – “Loves” MEL’S DINER, as does Amber Boaz who “always has at least one breakfast there.” Then there is the popular LORI’S 24 HOUR DINER where you may see the likes of Steve Mo hanging out at.

PEARL BURGER and SUPER DUPER BURGER, are both really close to the Moscone centre and are reasonably priced. They are also AMAZING according to Pearl Burger connoisseurs and Brit MVPs Simon Lawrence, Christopher Lewis and Chris Edwards! I know I will certainly be grabbing a bite there for sure! Who’s in?

Or if burger isn’t your thing then take Amber Boaz, MVP lunch time choice of falafels at OASIS.

Fancy steak? Then head over to MORTONS STEAK HOUSE – Simon’s advice would be to “take a loan out first.” Which can only mean one thing – GOOD STEAK!

If that doesn’t tickle your taste buds then Geraldine Gray’s advice is to visit NOPA “…(go hungry all day then sit at the bar or community table and order the pork chop).”

Happy HourThere are lots of ‘not so secret’ after parties to attend that I am sure you are aware of, but the APPIRIO customer event party, is “way more fun and social”, according to Geraldine, who also advises on heading over to the APPBASH if you can squeeze it in.

But if you are wanting to head out into San Fran and sit at a bar with your community peers, pick any happy hour, but after that Ryan advises heading over to PANDORA KARAOKE BAR, but beware there are a lot of your peers hogging the mic in there.

OR if you want to find me then I will most certainly be in this place thanks to Simon Lawrence recommendation – TONGA (they have a band playing on a boat in the middle of a swimming pool and your cocktail comes in a coconut)!

If you are after meeting Steve Mo – just visit any place that sells Pliny the Elder (not sure how popular that is out in San Fran, so hopefully you won’t have you go to too many bars ;) )

Dreamforce Apparel EssentialsFIRST DAY: For anyone attending Dreamforce for the first time it is important to know what clothing to wear. Taking in factors such as the ever changing San Fran weather, the fact that you may be on your feet all day and that good old first impression that you will want to make to potential clients and peers, getting your apparel sorted is no mean feat/feet (see what I did there?)

So let’s see the DF veterans take to the catwalk, #DF15 style

LAST DAY: SWAG! SWAG! SWAG! Let’s face it Salesforce peeps, the likelihood of you returning home without at least one piece of swag is remote! So while your intentions of dressing smart/casual may have lasted half a day, getting swagged up is SOOOO much more fun!

See you at the photo booths! 06

“Business casual with comfy shoes. Seriously, comfortable. Screw cute shoes. Dreamforce is NOT the time for cute shoes. Comfortable. Have I mentioned that you should have comfortable shoes?!”

Your Admin Heroes’ Heroes? We all know that people are they key, they make up the heart of Salesforce – the community. With close to 2 million users in the Salesforce community, we are certainly not making our Salesforce journey alone.

We all have Salesforce peers who inspire us, who we look up to or generally are the go to person for when you need any kind of Salesforce tips / support / sanity check – #WhyAdminsDrink!

We all have Salesforce heroes. But who are your

heroes’ heroes?

See you all in the Admin Zone or at the bar* for hugs. (*See Admin Hangouts on page 05)

PLAN – understand what you need to bring back. So if you want to brush up on your skills, then make sure to attend Hands On Training sessions. If you want to be strategic, comb the expo floor for new vendors that will meet the requirements for what you are looking for. Whatever the current need is, look for a solution at DF.

– LAUREN JORDAN, MVP & GIRLY GEEK

There will be a sea of Dreamforce bags in San Fran. Take your own backpack and put your DF bag in it. That way you won’t lose it if you put it down and two, your colleagues can spot you in a crowd!

– SIMON LAWRENCE

Play the Safe Harbour Drinking Game – Everytime you see a Safe Harbour, you drink up!

– STEVE MO

Trailhead is going to be big at this years DF – So if you haven’t earned your first badge or at least some points you better get going! If not, WHAT a place to start. Happy #Trailblazing!

Dreamforce Hotpicks

Unofficial guide to Dreamforce 2015

The Good Salesforce Admins’ ManifestoGood systems change your life, we’ve said it before, and the Salesforce platform is a great system on which to build your organisation. We hope that we made it loud and clear though – great technology is only part of the picture. What we know is that behind every SF business success story, there’s a going to be an even greater Admin working hard to keep everybody happily on track.

Our Good Salesforce Admins’ Manifesto is for every Admin out there, putting in the time behind the setup menu, to make your systems stronger, better and safer every day.

This is what we believe makes us great admins. This is our manifesto.

Community makes you stronger

Questions answered, solutions found, meetups, on demand peer expertise; with a community this good, you are never far from the support you need. That’s because every Admin knows that being part of the Salesforce community makes them stronger, and as a result, it makes the organisation we work for even stronger too.

Wear your certs with pride

Getting your Salesforce Admin Certificate means you are apart of a pretty exclusive club so wear your badge of honour with pride. Not only that but we support and encourage anyone who is yet to gain their certificate, as it’s TOUGH (and some of the best Admins around didn’t pass first time around. True story).

All admins are craftspeople

Every Admin should be proud of the part they play at their place of work. We are the guardians of the system, the defenders of the data, the upholders of the workflows. In short we are the platform’s craftspeople. We take pride in our work and find beauty in elegant solutions to tricky problems.

The AppExchange gives you superpowers

The AppExchange is one huge store of preconfigured solutions to problems you didn’t even know you had…yet. When you’ve got apps like this on demand, then you can be sure that there is a (power) tool for every tricky situation. Admins know that using the AppExchange wisely gives them superpowers.

A heart for clicks with a head for code

While we can almost rule the world with clicks, we know that our secret weapon is to still have a head for code...or in other words a logical, programming mindset. That’s what really makes a good admin brilliant. Clicks and code can coexist, and knowing when to deploy one above the other is our special skill.

Change is good

Three times a year the seasonal Salesforce winds of change blow strong, and that means one thing: a new release. New features, new functionality, new ways of solving old problems, every Spring, Summer and Winter. Change can be tough, but Salesforce Admins know that this is what keeps their platform a living, breathing place to do business.
