RSS Feeds

• RSS feeds are one of the most popular and easy to use Web 2.0 tools. Two websites, MedWorm and LibWorm, have taken RSS feeds a step further by collecting thousands of RSS feeds, indexing them, and making them searchable.

Page 22: How Web 2.0 Transforms Librarians

MedWorm

• MedWorm collects data from over 6,000 authoritative medical RSS feeds. Users can search MedWorm by keyword or exact phrase, or browse by categories such as medical conditions, consumer health news, drugs, and more. Results can be sorted by date, relevancy, or filters (similar to categories).

Page 23: How Web 2.0 Transforms Librarians

LibWorm

• There are currently 1,500 library-related RSS feeds available in LibWorm. These feeds come from library and information science blogs, wikis, journals, and submissions from users.

• Like MedWorm, you can search by keyword or exact phrase, but in LibWorm, you have the option to browse not only by category, but also by subject or tags.

Page 24: How Web 2.0 Transforms Librarians

LibWorm registration

• Completing a free and quick LibWorm registration is available for users who want to submit their own RSS feeds, discuss or comment on feeds, or email/save their feeds, searches, or retrieved items.

• Recommendation: subscribe to the medical librarianship or medical libraries category feeds, if interested.

the front page until you have people that like your blog enough to ignore them (they're usually just in the way).

• Use a clean and simple theme if at all possible. • Enjoy, blog for fun, comment on other peoples'

blogs (as they normally visit back).

Faculty 2.0

• Faculty roles and the processes of teaching and learning are undergoing rapid change. Most faculty members did not seek careers in the academy because of a strong love of technology or a propensity for adapting to rapid change; yet they now find themselves facing not only the inexorable advance of technology into their personal and professional lives but also the presence in their classrooms of technology-savvy Net Generation students (Hartman et. al., 2007).

Page 50: How Web 2.0 Transforms Librarians

50

Learning 2.0How do Web Technologies currently shape

education?

• Educators are starting to explore the potential of blogs, media-sharing services and other social software - which, although not designed specifically for e-learning, can be used to empower students and create exciting new learning opportunities
