Mobile Capture Challenges: Poor recognition of mobile-captured images - Mobile-captured images have poor recognition due to the low quality images currently sent from mobile devices. Organizations do not have any control in terms of the different mobile devices that their consumer base use. Some my use older smartphone/mobile devices that may not produce crystal clear images and may need to be enhanced at some point High transmission times - Transmission time for mobile-captured images is very high (many seconds per image), due to large file sizes. So this causes consumers to eat up their data plans when transmitting such captured images. Consumers may not have the luxury of always having a wifi network available and at times may need to depend on their cellular network for transmission. This can eat up data and additional costs for the consumer Lack of mobile-app embedded capture services - Customer’s mobile app missing on-device embedded, image capture and image cleanup/enhancement capabilities. Not all mobile capture applications are provided with image cleanup/enhancement capabilities. So there is no guarantee that mobile capture images have the highest quality if the business relies on extracting any meaningful information off the images

Based on many discussions with Captiva customers, the demand for mobile capture is widespread and has many use cases. Discussions with our customers have revealed key drivers for offering capture-enabled mobile services. Although most customers are aware of the business drivers below, our sales force may not be. Below are the “value-added” selling points Sales should focus on when selling the EMC Captiva Mobile SDK. Enhanced brand exposure – All customers large and small are looking to expand their brand to new customers within existing markets of geographic regions or to expand into new markets or geos. An efficient and effective way to do this is to offer capture-enabled mobile services that can reach across boundaries with minimal R&D. In the Financial Services market, offering a multitude of mobile services (e.g. account openings, check deposit, loan origination, claims submission, etc.) allows financial institutions to extend their brand to the ever growing customer base of smart device carrying consumers.

Perception/ Relevancy – An interesting business driver for mobile capture is customer perception. Up and coming banking or insurance companies are marketing to the Gen Y or Gen X demographic. For example, a lot of progressive insurance companies advertise to a decidedly younger crowd and create the perception of a company that is hip, technically savvy and is focused on a new way of doing business. Older, more traditional institutions tend to market to an older demographic and are perceived to do business in a more traditional manner. Offering capture-enabled mobile application services allow companies to bridge the perception gap between the new way of doing business and its more traditional ways while at the same time increasing their customer with new and younger customers not hesitant in implementing new technologies when they transact business.

Operational Efficiency – Capture-enabled Mobile applications eliminate the need to process paper and the manual efforts to handle that paper. For any organization that has field agents (i.e.; account managers, brokers, claims adjusters, etc.) where they are handling and sending documents, expense statements with receipts, images of claims or any other physical document, the effort and steps to send and process these documents are time consuming and inefficient. Capture-enabled mobile applications enable these agents to capture images and submit them electronically, thereby eliminating the steps to scan, send, ship, or mail documents. In addition, these documents and their images can then immediately be submitted to the appropriate business workflows for expedited processing.
