Retweet Others• If you want influencers on Twitter to notice you, start by

noticing them. ReTweet their most interesting Tweets.• Using a third party service like Brizzly or Tweetdeck allows you

to bypass Twitter’s new, unpopular ReTweet method.• It’s also a nice gesture if you visit another Twitter user’s blog

and then Tweet a post you liked. Make sure to tag your Tweet with the author’s Twitter username, prefaced by the @ symbol, so he or she will receive your tweet as a reply.

Thank Those Who ReTweet You

• Good social media manners aren’t just polite, they’re critical to building strong and rewarding relationships on Twitter.

• Etiquette on Twitter dictates that a polite “Thanks for the RT!” is called for as a reply to people who ReTweet you.

• If you’re lucky enough to get too many ReTweets to reply individually, it’s okay to Tweet @ several people at once with your thanks.

Befriend Top Influencers• Make a list of the most important people on Twitter who

Tweet about your industry.• Start by ReTweeting and @replying them. Over time, they’ll

take notice, especially if you give them useful feedback.• Don’t promote yourself or ask for help. Instead, offer help and

let influencers decide on their own whether or not to share your Tweets with their followers.

Write Interesting Tweets• You can’t trick someone into ReTweeting you.• They genuinely have to find your Tweet interesting and worth

sharing!• Make sure your Tweet reads like a killer headline.• If you send a Tweet out and then later think of a better,

catchier way to Tweet the same message, it’s okay to wait a few hours or a day and then Tweet again.

Add “Please RT” to Tweets• When used sparingly, the brief message, “Please RT,” can

encourage followers to ReTweet your messages.• Used excessively, this tag becomes annoying and makes your

Tweets sound unimportant.• Add “Please RT” only to important Tweets, particularly those

that relate to a time-sensitive call to action… and not one along the lines of, “Buy our product now!”
