There are large manufacturing, defense and research zones in Adelaide

South Australia is currently experiencing strong economic growth. Our mining and defense industry sectors are booming and there is very strong industry growth in construction, finance and insurance.

The South Australian Government’s population policy aims to reach a population of 2 million by2050 with a milestone of 1.64 million by 2014. This will be achieved by increasing the state’s shareof overseas migration and reducing the net outflow of people interstate.

South Australia’s Strategic Plan sets a pathway to a stronger economy and a more prosperous,sustainable community. First released in March 2004, the plan presents ambitious targets to focusgovernment, business and community efforts on six key strategic objectives:
• growing prosperity• improving wellbeing• attaining sustainability• fostering creativity• building communities• expanding opportunity
An update of South Australia’s Strategic Plan was released early in 2007. It contains an
infrastructure target to match the national average in terms of investment in key economic and social infrastructure, as well as specific targets in areas such as water, energy, telecommunications and transport.
The government has taken a number of steps to improve the public sector processes that underpinthe government’s capital investment programme, including:
