You made your glory higher than heaven! From the mouths of nursing babies you have laid a strong foundation because of your foes, in order to stop vengeful enemies. When I look up at your skies, at what your fingers made-- the moon and the stars that you set firmly in place -- what are human beings that you think about them; what are human beings that you pay attention to them? You've made them only slightly less than divine, crowning them with glory and grandeur. You've let them rule over your handiwork, putting everything under their feet-- all sheep and all cattle, the wild animals too, the birds in the sky, the fish of the ocean, everything that travels the pathways of the sea. “Our Awesome God of Creation” Psalm 8

Pastor Rick Vinther preaching

Psalm 8 LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name throughout the earth!

LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name throughout the earth! There is MAJESTY in God’s name - EVERYWHERE! Psalm 8:1a LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name throughout the earth! God’s Glory is greater than anything or anyone! Psalm 8:1b …You made your glory higher than heaven!

His existence is evident throughout His Creation! Psalm 8:3 When I look up at your skies, at what your fingers made— the moon and the stars that you set firmly in place … Romans 1:20 Ever since the creation of the world, God's invisible qualities— God's eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, because they are understood through the things God has made. So humans are without excuse... God’s love for us is beyond our comprehension! Philippians 2:6-8 Though he was in the form of God, he did not consider being equal with God something to exploit. But he emptied himself by taking the form of a slave and by becoming like human beings. When he found himself in the form of a human, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Romans 5:8 God shows his love for us, because while we were still sinners Christ died for us. _______________________________________________________________

For Personal and Group Reflection 1. What are your thoughts when you read the statement in verse 1, “You made your glory higher than the heaven!”? What is David saying about God? 2. How is God’s majestic name linked with praise “from the mouths of nursing babies”? How does such praise stop vengeful enemies? 3. Think of those times you’ve looked up at the stars on a clear night. Or when you’ve looked at the mountains… or the vastness of the ocean. How do you feel about God at those times? 4. Considering the vastness of His creation, do you feel important to God? Discuss how… or how not. 5. How are humans “only less than divine”? What does that mean? 6. Psalm 8 tells us that God has ordained humanity to rule over His handiwork. What are our limits and responsibilities with His creation? Can we do anything we want with it? Explain. 7. Restate, in your own words, verse 9, that reads, “Lord, our Lord how majestic is your name throughout the earth.” Next Week – A Time of Praise and Thanksgiving in our Church family
