INTRODUCTIONChurch or business and communication are inseparable. Thechurch consists of people and communication is an elementof human culture. Business on the other hand also involvestransactions between two or more parties, hence the needfor communication. Exchange of information(communication) in the 21st century has taken a new form,especially with the introduction of Internet andtelecommunications systems into information processing.How can this computer-mediated means of communicationbe applied in the church and in business? Few ways arediscussed in this presentation.

The church refers to a collective group of Christiansseen as a single spiritual community. A group of peoplewho follow the same Christian religious beliefs.

Since the church is a community of people, there is aneed for effective communication within the church.

Jesus Christ, in Matthew 28:19-20, says, “All authority inheaven and on earth has been given to me.” Therefore, hecommands us and gives us authority to go and makedisciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name ofthe Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, andteach them to obey everything He has commanded us.

Requirement for the Great Commission

The command of the great commission requires theperson carrying out the assignment to reach out andcommunicate, share, and disseminate certaininformation to millions of people, as far as he can reach,all over the world.

COMMUNICATION

Communication is the exchange of information betweenentities [people] by means of speaking, writing, or usinga common system of signs or behaviors. It is the act ofsending and receiving data and information between asender and a receiver via a medium.

Preaching the gospel and serving God’s care is aconcept of exchanging information.

The media comprises of the means and institutions forcommunicating, publishing and broadcastinginformation.

Traditional Non-print-based Media e.g. oral discussion, signsand symbols.

Traditional Print-based Media e.g. manual typewriting,magazine and newspapers.

Non-computer Electronic-based Media e.g. television andradio.

Computer-Based [Social] Media e.g. Stylized Images,Programmed Presentations, Graphic and Web-based media.

ONLINE CHAT & INSTANT MESSAGINGChat and instant messaging (IM)services allow users to send andreceive short messages, discuss asubject or share ideas in real time, e.g.WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger,Skype, Google Hangout, WeChat etc.

CONCLUSIONMaximize the opportunities that come with 21st century,especially ICT. ICT tools are versatile – useful everywherepeople congregate including homes, businesses andchurches. Social media are so important these days thatit is becoming increasingly difficult if not barely possibleto communicate effectively when not introduced.

Therefore, we need to use these tools in churches and inbusinesses in order to be versatile, efficient, and be ableto participate globally.
