In today’s Gospel reading, John the Baptist

warns his listeners to repent! Be open to a

conversion of heart! As good stewards, we pray

for the grace to hear this call to conversion in

the midst of the hustle and bustle of our

Christmas preparations.

Abide in God’s love. When we allow Christ into our lives and allow ourselves

to be with God, we will produce good fruit, even after difficult times of

pruning. When we bear fruit, we experience everlasting joy.

In his encyclical, “Laudato si”, Pope Francis spoke to today’s gospel when he wrote: “We are

called to be instruments of God our Father, so that our planet might be what he desired when he created it and correspond with his plan for

peace, beauty and fullness.” (#53) May we all be challenged to be instruments of

peace this Advent.

Recently, Mae Signori represented our parish at the Matthew 24 Mass

& Recognition Dinner for the Diocese of San Diego. For over

twenty-two years, Mae Signori has worked tirelessly to love and serve

the poor, elderly and shut-in seniors. She’s walked the streets of

Oceanside with homemade burritos for the homeless, sorted endless piles of clothing and even drives a truck (at 88 years of age) for the food bank. Thank you foryour gift of inspiration to all of us.Mae Signori

Like so many prophets before him, John the

Baptist called on people to change their ways.

But simply saying hearts had changed wasn’t

enough. John wanted conversion to be seen in

the fruit of a disciples life. What kind of fruit do

others see from the way we live?

Stewardship in the Gospel

Page 17: Second Sunday of Advent 12-4-2016

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT

Be Grateful: All that we are and all that we have is a gift. Gratitude that never takes any gift, great or small, for granted helps us grow in our love of God.

Rejoice always. Paul tells us in Philippians 4:4 to always find joy in the Lord. Paul wrote this while he was in

jail. He demonstrated finding joy at all times, not just when things were going

well. Rejoice in the Lord always.

Beyond the moon and stars, as deep as night,

So great our hunger, Lord, to see your light.

So may we come to rest where angels sing.

This week we celebrate the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, a Holy Day of Obligation and the patronal feast of the United States. Advent reminds us of a strong, young,

unwed mother-to-be, whose yes resounds throughout the ages as a model of radical

discipleship. Please join us at 7:30am in the Parsih Chapel, the Historic Church at 12noon, or

in Serra Center at 7pm for our bilingual mass.

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT

Be Committed: To be committed does not mean to never stray from the path of Stewardship. It means that when we do, we find our way back to the path and continue on. To be committed, you must involve yourself in study and devotion, for these things help to keep us focused on the tasks at hand.

Don’t wait for the perfect “when” to abide in God’s love. A joyful life is

made up of joyful moments gracefully strung together by trust, gratitude,

inspiration and faith. Remain faithful and you will see the fruits of your efforts.

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT

Be Accountable: God never call us in isolation. We are created for community. We also can never truly become the person God created us to be unless we are willing to be accountable to others. We must lift each other up when we fall, but we must also be willing to hear the truth when we have strayed.

Ask God for joy. During times of mourning and grieving, or times when joy is only a memory we must ask God to give us the kind of joy only God can

give. The joy of the Lord gives us strength, comfort, healing and hope.

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHTS

Stewardship is about giving your entire self to God. It is about how you live your life each and every day. We are

called by God to be mindful, prayerful, grateful, gracious, committed and

accountable to our faith.
