Safety through Trust
1 Those who trust in the LORDAre like Mount Zion,
Which cannot be moved, but abides forever.2 As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
So the LORD surrounds His peopleFrom this time forth and forever.
3 For the scepter of wickedness shall not restOn the land allotted to the righteous,
Lest the righteous reach out their hands to iniquity.
4 Do good, O LORD, to those who are good,
And to those who are upright in their hearts.
5 As for such as turn aside to their crooked ways,
The LORD shall lead them awayWith the workers of iniquity.
Peace be upon Israel!
Songs of degrees (Psalms 120-134)Also called “Stepping Psalms”
When the temple of Solomon was built, the Israelites sang these songs as they mounted the steps of the temple.
Each Psalm seems to lead a step higher and causes one to further rejoice in the increasing revelation of divine truth.
Safety in Trusting
Notice the security!
1 Those who trust in the LORDAre like Mount Zion,
Which cannot be moved, but abides forever.
John 10:14,15 – 14 I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. 15 As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep.
John 10:29 – My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.
2 As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
So the LORD surrounds His peopleFrom this time forth and forever.
Psalm 9:10 – And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.
God’s Hedge
Job 1:8-10 – 8 Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that
there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears
God and shuns evil?”9 So Satan answered the LORD and said,
“Does Job fear God for nothing?
Job 1:8-10 –10 Have You not made a hedge around him, around his
household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the
work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.
2 As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
So the LORD surrounds His peopleFrom this time forth and forever.
3 For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest
On the land allotted to the righteous,
Lest the righteous reach out their hands to iniquity.
3 For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the
righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands unto
iniquity. (KJV)
Who are Good?
4 Do good, O LORD, to those who are good,
And to those who are upright in their hearts.
Psalm 5:12 – For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous;
With favor You will surround him as with a shield.
James 2:18-24 – 18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I
will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and
tremble!
James 2:18-24 –20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our
father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together
James 2:18-24 –23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. And he was called the
friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith
only.
